Seriously though, I wasn't criticising your desire to buy the plate as such, more your tragic plan to alter the spacing and add superficial screws.

Because that is such an odd thing to do, surely nobody has ever done that?

And then you run into problems like:

    Failing an MOT
Being pulled by the police (and fined i think)
And the possibility of the plate being revoked by the DVLA.

Failing MOT - not hard to put standard plates on for the MOT
Pulled by the police - if you fail the attitude test, yeah you will get a fine. Pass the attitude test and probably wouldnt be fined.
Revoked by the DVLA? Never heard of that one.

Do you ever drive at 31mph in a 30mph zone SCO?

Whats the speed got to do with it?

If the same officer pulls you twice and told you to change it the first time you will get a fine.

the DVLA dont tend to do it a lot, but it is the law you have to display the plate in a certain way.

I honestly think she will be deeply unimpressed at such a gift. Probably embarrased to have it on the car but will leave it there to save hurting your feelings. It really is unfair to put her in that position.

Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Legalities of spacing aside, please also consider the future costs of this gift.

I bought a private plate for my hubby for his 30th birthday direct from DVLA for £250. Little did I know that 12 years later it would have been on another 6 cars at a cost of £80 (IIRC) per transfer. I now call it the gift that keeps costing!!

Do a bit more research then.

Yes, as far as I can tell, if stopped the police will report you and issue a notice to get the plates sorted, if you fail to head the warning and are stopped again I believe the DVLA can assign the car a 'Q' plate, which from what a gather will drastically affect the value of the car and insurance companies will sting you.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world

You'll get your original number back or an age related one not a Q plate.
