I want to get my fiancee a private plate (that will be her new name when we are married) as a wedding present.

The registration is a normal one and may r may not be transferable. I dont think there is anyone I can check this until I see the logbook.

I have checked the reg online and it shows that it is registered on a Renault (doenst state the model).

Now it says that the Renault is a 2004 registered car, and the reg I want starts MR51 so I think maybe the reg is transferable as it looks to have come off a 2001 car and been put on a 2004 car...

Anyway, I digress... How can I contact the owner to register my interest in buying it? Obviously nobody will give me the owner's address...

Thanks

  • You could send £2 to the DVLA along with a V888 form

Make something up like the driver of the car keeps parking on your private property. As they wont just give you the RK details just cos you want them.

As you have already pointed out that the MR51*** is on a 2004 car - I would assume it has been bought by someone who has the same name and wanted a cheapo (if a little takky) private number plate.

    Ouch!

    Cheers for the help :D
  • My uncle has a private number plate on his car - its two letters (aunties initials) then the year of the car (04) followed by three letters (his initials).

It looks like any other 04 plate to someone that didnt know their initials.

its how you space them though, I wont say my name buy say I was called Lamp... If I got her MR51AMP I would but the black plate screw by the 1 so it looks like an "L" put a space in between the 5 and the 1 so would look like MR5 LAMP

I saw one once that was MR55EXY, looked like MRS SEXY!

Sorry buddy, but like 98.4% of vanity plates, it's a cr*p idea.

I'm pretty sure there are many gifts your new wife would appreciate much, much more.

The problem will be someone has already had the same idea as you, which is why it's on a 2004 car and not on a 2001 car when the plate was released.

In your opinion it is. But then, I wasnt asking for opinions of whether people thought it was a good idea or not.

Please send me a list of everything you think is cr*p, and everything you think is great, and I will be sure to conform....

    Gee, really? Thanks :)

Seriously though, I wasn't criticising your desire to buy the plate as such, more your tragic plan to alter the spacing and add superficial screws.

And then you run into problems like:

    Failing an MOT
Being pulled by the police (and fined i think)
And the possibility of the plate being revoked by the DVLA.
