Anyone who counts Satruday and Sunday deserves what they get in my book.

By the way - what was the dispatch time - and was it posted within that time.

    may not be delivered

Dont correct my post for me. It will not be delivered until monday as the email says to check the website for my delivery slot first thing Monday morning!

Jonathan - I checked carefully the t&Cs on the checkout page - I shop online frequently and always do this. nowhere does it state that next day applies to Mon - Thursday orders only.
What else would you suggest I do? I am miffed because I am now not going to be able to deliver an item when I promised!

no the shop hasnt done anything wrong - but, in not fully informing the customer, they havent really done it right either!:)
  • You paid extra for a courier next working day, if you are getting a time slot it must be a courier and unless you pay extortionate amounts of shipping you will never get a Sat delivery by one of them! Agree with the above if you'd called/mailed then you might have had a chance of them shipping royal mail Sat SD.

If someone offered me next working day delivery, i wouldn't expect a delivery to be made on a weekend. Mon to Fri are working days in most businesses.

I have just been on the courier service website and they DO deliver on Saturdays! and Sunday too! so please stop telling me that I am unreasonable on expecting to GET a next day service when that is what I paid for!
and when I said I would have saved £4.50 - that is on the retailers standard postage.

Ty - JonathanA - I did pay extra for next day delivery and, weirdly I expect next working day. What I am most miffed about is that there is no mention of this being Monday to Friday only on the retailers website, I naturally assumed that Saturday was included. and there are always lots of courier vans in the street on Saturdays - I even saw one of the firm named on the Tracking page today!

Am I missing something? Since when has Saturday been classed as a working day?

You say you 'weirdly' expect something delivered next working day... which 'weirdly' enough it's going to be - on Monday.

The rest of the UK population seem to manage ok understandingMonday to Friday being the working days, do you want them to add a note on checkout just for you?

Numerous pieces of legislation define a working day as "any day other than a Saturday or Sunday [and Bank Holidays]". I'd personally say that a next-day service would mean it should arrive on the next working day and can't be taken literally. Otherwise you'd be able to place an order at 11.30 pm on a Saturday evening and expect a Sunday delivery as it's the next day.

I'd personally say that a court would determine that customers who order "next-day delivery" should expect the item to arrive the next working day after the order is accepted. To expect an item to arrive on a non working day is, in my view, hopeful.

As a retailer, we use Royal Mail Special Delivery for next day, before 1pm deliveries. However, their service relates to next working day, Saturday isn't classed as a working day, so items posted on Friday will not be delivered until Monday.

If you neededed them today, it would perhaps have been worth phoning them to see if they could suggest a way for that to happen for you, but lots of couriers don't do Saturday deliveries either.

It is a difficulty as many customers want Saturday delivery ant there aren't many who will do it at a reasonable enough cost that people will pay the amount they charge.

OP, you are quite entitled to be annoyed.

Despite what the usual suspects (who love to belittle anyone who was not born with a complete understanding of what every business they deal with means as opposed to what they say) you are perfectly entitled to expect a next day delivery to mean exactly that.

The points the muppets who have piled in to tell you your are being unreasonable seem to have missed are:

    1) According to your OP the site offered 'next day delivery', not 'next working day delivery'.

    2) Both the RM and many courier companies do deliver on a Saturday.

    3) If someone says 'next day' it is up to them to qualify that, if that is not what they mean. (I'd grant that it would be a bit daft to expect a Sunday delivery simply because just about no couriers do that).

Theoretically the company are in breach of contract, although it would not be really be worth while pursuing that line.
