She seems reasonably laid back - has a great social life with fellow teachers. Ratemyteacher website says she's lovely & friendly but never marks any work. She certainly seems to have a lot of free time eves and weekends (she teaches a core subject) and she and her OH even went away overnight to a lovely boutique hotel when they both had an inset day!

I think there's definitely a relationship between lack of marking and increased free time.......;)

.KC some days I feel physically sick about work...I try not to say too much as I could easily enough be recognised and I don't want to make it real IYSWIM. Anyway I have half an eye on the exit.

Hi Al, you're not alone. I and the rest of the teachers at my school feel the same :(

I don't know a teacher who doesn't feel like this. Oh, yes I do: one. She does 3 days part time each day as a specialist for children under the age of 7, at one of the most exclusive prep schools in the country. Its a hobby for her, not a job. Everybody else, who works because they need the income, feels terrible, and is dying to leave.

Al, you're right not to say enough to be recognised - I'm in a niche sphere myself, so although I'm qualified as a counsellor, thats not what I do. I'd never write it online.

Hope you have a good evening.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

My Mum taught an unpopular subject for 10 years. Every morning, the sound of her retching loudly (stress) was a guilt-inducing accompaniment to the day.

It was complicated (tied up with fees etc.) and we were so glad when she left. She now has an easy job where her personality and strengths are used, but the money is pants. Hopefully she'll be able to retire in a few years, she has earned it.

    I hope so too Ed.

When i was trying to encourage you to teach back along i really meant it. The world has changed so much since then.

You seem to be dealing with your job much better?

£15 saved lift sharing. £13 spent on a suitcase for DD2 but from her Christmas money...she really really wanted one.

I think I'm just moaning about it less Al! ;)

Please excuse the overly long explanation that follows.

Work remains absolutely dire, !!!!!! all to do 50% of the time, unreasonably stretched 10% of the time, plootering along 40% of the time.

Still finding the black dog to be a [STRIKE]stones[/STRIKE] sticks throw away most of the time, but a few things have changed. I'm a lot more focused on baby stuff, I had a job rejection with some positive feedback that gave me hope for the future and our savings and investments reaching £££££ gave me some confidence that they might ever amount to anything.

Also have the first glimmers of a small lifestyle business idea (i.e. weekend business) in the back of my head, although it would require more space, so will need to wait until we have a house. Starting to think that there might be enough money left over from ISA to pay deposit on house + startup costs within 18 months or so.

Realistically? Doubt I'll get rid of my office job in the short term, but would like to grow my income to accelerate FI.
