Created my own little spreadsheet this morning for my 4 creditors.

I now have £855.90 left to pay over the next 3 months.

So I am still on track to make my last payment on 2nd June 2013 and then wonder what to do with the extra £280 month I will have from 1st July 2013 !.

It would have taken me 90 months instead of the planned 84, to get debt free, but I would have paid off approx £23500.00 worth of debt all with the help of Payplan - thanks guys !.

    Thanks for the thanks Julie,

Things are tight this month, having to scrimp and save, I think I may have been too tight on my DMP budget, with the view of trying to get debt free quicker, I may need to ring them and change, but I dont want to start mucking things about this early on...

As for ur budget, we have had to make drastic changes to our lifestyle to accommodate budget plan, sometimes i worry our grocery bill isnt realistic (340 for family of 4) but im reluctant to change budget plan so early on, if you are really steuggling tho then the budget has to be manageable long term so maybe u will need to amend.

If you think it's just a matter of getting used to the budget, look on the Old Style boards for some ideas on economising. Meal planning, batch cooking, bulk buying, slow cooking, "diluting" meat with pulses are all great ideas for saving money.

Make a strict list before you go shopping, based on your meal plan and stick to it. if you don't trust yourself to stick to your list, do an online shop instead.

We only work with cash and are then never tempted to buy things that are not on our list. If I haven't got the money on me, I can't buy it!

One of the best pieces of advice I have ever read on this forum, was from someone who told me to treat every week like it's a 5 week month. When it isn't, either add the budgeted money to your emergency fund or use it to stock up your freezer, store cupboard or bulk buy cheap cleaning materials, loo rolls etc.

The first couple of months are difficult but this is long term and you need to get it right and for life to be bearable, so please don't let it get you down. Your budget is supposed to be manageable and you really shouldn't be struggling. If you are, go back to StepChange and tell them you need to change your budget to allow more for food/housekeeping.

BTW I expect my DMP to run about five years. That sounds great. All my debts gone in five years! Even if I could afford the debts I have without going to DMP I would have been looking at 7 - 10 years, and I'd have probably kept borrowing!
For me, no more debt again, ever.
Good luck all, and thanks for the solidarity. :)

I have around 4 years to go as it stands now but have knocked quite a few years off my originally DFD so hoping that I can keep knocking off months bringing my DFD closer.

I know what you mean about having no debt in 4/5 years, this used to be a constant source of worry for me as I am heading for retirement in the next 10 years and I worried how I could get rid of the debt before I retired. Now this is no longer a worry and I can look forward a debt-free, worry-free future...and..... definately no more debt!!:o
  • That's my impression too. I was doing some searching and found references to defaults within 2 years so we may not have to wait the whole 6.

    HHx

Please may you explain what you mean about defaults and 2 years and 6 years?
