I was the same MB! I thought the cc companies would be the worst but they've been lovely! lol
I spoke to Next this morning as they sent me an email saying I needed to pay £300 to bring my account up to date and she was so lovely. She even said she was sorry to hear we were struggling and even though they probably get told to say it, it was really nice.

It sounds like you've had a really tough time but I'm pleased to hear everything is going well for you now :)

Tough time? Me? Nah... I enjoyed the process as it was me telling my creditors what was happening as opposed to running around trying to get more credit from somewhere else to pay what I owed!

All is now god in tha' hooood :)

  • Hi All, and welcome to all newbies.

Thought I'd drop in and update on a fairly productive month.
I finally managed to get off my back side, and get a load of stuff listed on ebay for sale. Everything sold, and we've have made £1000 from stuff that has been sitting in a garage, going rusty!

So, I've paid off one Barclaycard cc, and now paying the portion of my DMP payment that was going to that card onto another one that's charging small amounts of interest. So a bit of snowballing on DMP!

We've had a couple of meals out, bought parts to fix our oven (that's been broken for 2 years), invested in a cross trainer to try and shift a bit of excess bulk, and still have £350 to add to the emergency fund.

I've updated the spread sheets, and we have now cleared 26% of our debt.:j
The light at the end of the tunnel is burning brighter every month!

Hope you all have a good weekend - I'm off to find more junk to sell!

    Hi

Payday a week next Friday & feeling low and out of control :(. Not managed to get much overtime in this month. Had the kids to keep amused during the holidays, replaced some of the uniform that I didn't manage to do in September & gone over on the budget :(. Also, had a hard decision to make regarding changing jobs in work. My positive head is saying it's ok, we all have blips & I didn't go over being reckless. It was stuff that was needed. The negative side of me is saying I've gone over budget, I'm a failure & I'm never going to clear this damn debt :(:(:(

Hey DMPers, don't let the barstewards get you down!!! Being in debt won't go on forever. The kids will grow up and leave home one day (I hope).

Well I'm off back to the Wild Blue Yonder again, but before I go may I say you are all bl**dy mad!!! What with telling porkies for 50p pieces, reading steamy novels (or not!) and having imaginations fed on overdoses of value hot chocolate with a resulting sugar rush it's not surprising the banking system in this country is in such a mess. You naughty, naughty, people!!!!
Bad news on my PPI - can't claim but thought it was worth a shot.
It is grand to see so much support, help and respect for each other here. This thread got me through the worst of times, and now I'm lucky enough to be in the best of times I still think of you all. Have faith, grit your teeth and hang in there. Debt free date will come for you one day.
(Got a big 60 birthday next week and have turned into a doddery old fool as can't remember how to insert emoticons now but a big SMILE to you all!)

  • Morning all

Congratulations Twitty on the special birthday that looms. Bad luck on the PPI but I think you are in a good place regardless :).

Yes GUO, fond wishes to all with Welsh connections. I hear Welshmen make good lovers so that dragon must be firing out testosterone.

Nextyeartina, please don't beat yourself up. It sounds like you are doing great. We've all been there with the lows. I learnt in the first few months of the DMP that keeping my fingers crossed and trying not to spend were not tactics enough to constitute effective budgeting. I found it helpful to have emergency food in the freezer and cupboard. I have a budget sheet for each month so birthdays and special events are on there and planned for. Also tick off as I spent even the odd pound. I know it all sounds simple but really got me to feel in control and I knew what elements I could flex when I needed to. If you are comfortable you know where money going etc I'd suggest things are cut too close to the bone and you need to approach your DMP provider and get a budget review. DMPs are informal and one advantage to that is they are flexible. It's your money, debt needs to be paid but you need to live too. Anyway big hug for now.

    Hello all,
Question for you experienced DMP ers....
4months in and got a letter yesterday from GE money, (background- they are still charging us interest (which is more than the monthly amount they are getting from SC, so we have put the FOS on them))
Anyway they have defaulted us (good I thought) but the letter says further action they intend to take
1 they will issue proceedings in the courts for a order as a result Of our default
2 the lender may bring proceedings in the courts for the balance of the total loan and interest outstanding
It then goes onto say about court judgements, paying interest on top of the loan etc and it advises getting a solicitor or speaking to CAB!
I can't speak to SC until Tuesday , has anyone any advice? Is this standard? Our other defaults don't mention court? I am very worried and though we were over the worst (4 months in!!!)

    Thanks
