What are people's experiences of the following companies for cutting interest:

    Halifax
    Capital one
    Barclaycard/ barclays
    Tesco
    Moneyway
    Catalogues like very and isme
    Vanquis
    Aqua
Pay days like sunny and quick quid
    Nationwide

Halifax are still charging full interest on one CC as the amount we are paying is more than the minimum payment would have been. They told us if we can drop our payment the interest would be charged at 1% so we are looking at our options with that atm. Interest has stopped on the two Halifax bank account over drafts but we are still being charged £1 day for them. My Halifax CC had a small amount and was passed over to a DCA, so interest stopped on that one.

Capital One have been great all interest stopped, so has the Tesco CC. Can't help with the others but good luck.

    Do you mean Wombat's post?
Finally, please remember that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to a DMP.

This is a great piece of advice. We are all in the same boat but every DMP is different because everyone's circumstances are different. :T

Does anyone know what happened to the MSE Badger? It seems to have disappeared and I think it's very disappointing to see people posting about their debt free or mortgage free status and not being awarded a badge to wear with honour :(

  • So it all started today with a phone call from Wonga - which I ignored and quickly added the number to my blocked list. I have emailed their customer services with a copy of a letter I have sent with a token payment and asking for all correspondence to made through email or letter.

I sent letters to creditors on Friday advising the situation and with a token payment included - hoping these will be put through the systems today so phone calls should stop soon.

Despite having cancelled my continuous payment authority to the 3 pay day loans on the 27th one came off on the 29th and I was told it would be refunded. There was no refund and I received a letter today saying that since the payments to the 3 companies were "standard" they were unable to cancel or refund any payments taken I have called the bank and they have promised that the refund will go in by 6pm today so will be checking that every 30mins and as soon as it goes in I will be it transferring to another account that I have with the bank and transferring £350 per day until I have lifted all the money out the account. They have said that the companies will probably still try to take the money and that I may be charged everytime this happens? But he said I should get those charges refunded to me - the banks don't make things easy!!!

I called the co op again and asked them to send another application pack because the first one hasn't arrived.

Im on hold to stepchange now as I forgot about 1 of my creditors, received an email from them this morning asking for payment - have emailed standard letter back and hoping that stepchange can add this to my list.

My stomach is in knots knowing that its going to be a rough couple of weeks, fingers crossed it gets sorted out soon.

Thanks again for everyones help :)

Chin up anywayout, we've all been there so know how you feel. It will be sorted out in the next few weeks and then you will be able to sleep and be back in control of your life.

Hope you get the payday loans sorted and the bank account. There's a lot to do at the beginning but once you are up and running you won't know yourself!

Keep going anywayout, in a month you'll feel so much better about it all.

Just a quickie from me - I'm moving house at then end of the month into an unfurnished place and I've worked out my only necessity will be a bed which I can get thriftily. I'll stick with camp chairs etc until I can save up enough to buy a sofa and a table.

I can't afford a bed but if I reduced my DMP payment by £100 for one month how do you you think this will go down with my creditors? They'll still be getting a good £200 and it'll be back to normal the month after. I just don't want to sleep on the floor for the next 3 months but I will if I have to. Anyone else reduced their payment for something like this?

When we set up our agreement with PayPlan they volunteered the option to us, saying a one off reduced payment should be fine as long as it doesn't become a regular occurrence.

On a completely different note, I've noticed most of us are going with either Co-op or Natwest for our new credit free accounts.

We went for Natwest when we started and today whilst on the old online banking I got a very interesting prompt.

Their accounts (bar the basic one though it's easy to get the free Select account) are now doing 1% cashback on all DEBIT CARD spends. They've picked up a reasonable number of companies including BP (handy since the nearest cheapest garage to me is BP).

Anyhow, I thought I'd let you all know that even with a DMP we can still get some cashback from our cards, and without using credit :T
