DMP & Mutual Support Thread - Part 9

Having written to Halifax CC regarding interest still being charged we had a letter back saying please phone us again. It is as we thought our payment is too high, more than the minimum payment we would have been making had we not been on the DMP. They said if we reduce our payment then the interest will go down to 1%, however as we all know this isn't going to happen through Stepchange. I'm wondering where to go with this now. Complain to the FOS or go self managed? Could I split the DMP into my debts and OH's debts, and just self manage his debts as this debt is in his name?
Any ideas guys?DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

Hi Growurown,
Self-managed with the help of North East Derbyshire Citizens Advice Bureau (NEDCAB) is one that I and others on here have done. It gives you full back up re letters, budgets etc, also a reference number you can quote when contacting creditors. Have a look at their website and see what you think. Good luck:)DeeBee0 -

Had a look and it is very comprehensive. If TTFTM has used it - it must be good!
If I have it correct then the repayments are allocated pro rata according to the amount you owe. I will have to look at it carefully because the repayment might still work out too high for them to drop interest, and then there wouldn't be any point in changing.DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

Hi everyone
Still getting the contact us within 48 hours letters from Aqua card (yawn just sell it on to the dca you muppets!), and they're still charging interest and late payment/over limit fees as well!!.Is there a letter/template that I could send them requesting interest freeze/stopping of charges or should I just ride it out until it gets sold on? Ambrose Wilson/J D Williams are not playing ball either - does anyone have any experience with these two or any advice on how to tackle them? Stepchange have said to ignore them but whilst other debts are reducing theirs are increasing

how long has it been with Aqua? they are my bug bear - they wrote to me after 6 months to say they were freezing interest (which lasted for one whole month), then wrote again saying they couldn't freeze it but had reduced it as a sign of good faith - by a massive 1%:mad:
I've done the letter of complaint route and got nowhere, now doing the FOS route and waiting on the outcome of that whilst all the while the balance goes up....
let me know how you get on and if you have more luck than I've had.0 -
Hello Everyone,
Good to see so many positive posts and debts moving in the right direction for us all:T
We have now completed 3 years on our DMP and have paid off over 17k - hurtling towards 40% of our debt paid back! It's a wonderful feeling;)
We still have a long way to go but we are hoping to knock off a year from our debt free date which I know we can do.
I set myself small milestones along the way which keeps me totally focused, my next milestone is to have all our CC debts under the 4k mark (two to go)
Working away at the moment which is always a challenge but I try to keep a float so that I am able to cover hotel and fuel bills:eek:
Take care

I guess I'll start with the "I'm on a dmp, are you thick?" letter! lol. Then if I get no joy with that I'll go onto a complaint! I used to get all panicky over their "threatening" letters but stepchange have been so great with all their advice. We have 21 creditors  so i guess 18/21 being cooperative and freezing interest is pretty good! Let me know how you get on with the FOS route.0 -
Bit of good news in the post this morning, Ambrose Wilson have finally accepted the dmp from stepchange (via their in-house dca) and will not be charging any more service charges etc. So 19/21 creditors on board so far - just the dreaded Aqua to deal with!!! lol.
Stay positive everyone xx0
