    Hi,

I need to apply for car insurance (none currently). I am unable to afford the total amount and will need to pay monthly. I have had some quotes through Money supermarket and have found a good deal with Churchill. I will pay a deposit of £100 and monthly amounts of £35. Has anyone had any problems getting car insurance whilst on a DMP?

I haven't but I have stayed with the same company that I was with before the DMP started. They have never said anything, but when we tried to change our phone provider we were turned down due to our credit rating being rubbish. All you can do is try.

I know its not supposed to be done but is there anyone who could pay it for you in a lump sum and you pay them back monthly? Just in case they say no.

You should be able to get mobile phone contracts and utilities, unless I guess if you were in arrears on those payments themselves in the past.

I've certainly never been turned down for anything like that.

Hi all hope your all well.
update here is HBOS Loan has been defaulted and passed to Blair Oliver Scott so at least no more interest.
Shame HFx wouldnt do the same with the cc :/
Other than that car service wiped out the emergency fund and seem to be struggling a bit on the finances a bit no more news.
Next month is my first review argh. dont see where i will find much for an increase though.

Just going to get as much ready for when it comes.

Thanks for all the help/advice and laughs :)

Caught up.... I have read this entire thread and can't wait to join in!

New bank details arrived today and fixed mortgage for 5 years yesterday so don't need to worry about that for awhile!

Off on holiday soon do will be looking to start the ball rolling hopefully in September. Will get OH to pay off the od on the joint account whilst I'm away and then I can close it so he is not connected to this muddle hopefully!

So much to think about but I feel this is the right move for me and knowing I have all you lovely people with your wealth (excuse the pun...) of experience and knowledge, this is a journey I can do. I hope to share my journey with you.

  • New Debit Cards and account details arrived today for the new safe bank account with Nat West. One of the few me and wife don't owe money to.
Wages will be arranged to be paid in there from next month.
First payment made to Payplan made today. Payplan have said they will contact all our creditors for us. Is this the usual thing?
Also today received a letter from HSBC informing us we have not made our Loan payment to them due to cancelled DD. The payment was only due yesterday. They don't hang around!!! The wife has also had texts urging her to call bank urgently.
We're expecting many more letters and phone calls. Hopefully things will settle down once Payplan have spoke to all our creditors.
Expecting a rough few weeks ahead? :(

Hi Redscorpion - welcome to this board:j
You might wish to ring your debtors and explain you have entered into a DMP - it takes a while to setup and they may continue to hassle you in the interim. If you tell them they will leave you alone for thirty days. I am with SC and they advised writing letters to them as well. It is probably the last thing you want to do, but if you explain your intentions they will stop ringing you.

The only creditor who rang me was HBOS (and they rang enough times) and everytime the conversation went :

HBOS: Can I speak to the cardholder
Me : Yes, I am in the process of arranging a DMP with Payplan and this is my reference number
HBOS: Can you make a payment today
Me : No, speak to Payplan

    End of call

So I wouldnt ring them, I would let them ring you.
