  • Just wanted to say welcome to the newbies and good luck with your DMP journey.

TTFTM has already put a brilliant post about life in a DMP and I would recommend reading through the threads to get an idea and hopefully may answer any questions.

Although it does seem scary, most of us wonder why we didn't do it before and although the first couple of months may be a bit bumpy generally things do settle down. Any questions don't be afraid to ask.

Wisdom comes from experience. Experience is often a result of lack of wisdom.
  • Hi All,

I wanted to announce that I have actually done it. I have all the paperwork through from StepChange, I've informed all of my creditors and most of them have been brilliant and its all set for the ball to start rolling. I'm going to be debt free in 1 year and 7 months and gosh its scary... So hi to all and I imagine I may well be posting a lot on here to benefit from your experience etc.

In a way I'm so relieved that I've done it but I'm terrified too!

    Morning all,

Thought I would pop my head around the door.

We started our DMP in March paying minimum payments as our mortgage arrears took up the surplus of our budget. Well we've managed to pay them all off bar £50 which will be payed with Augusts payment.
So my plan is to up the DMP payment by £50 and use the other surplus £50 to stretch the budget a bit further. Has anyone done this before the review. I'm guessing its just a case of calling SC and telling them what you want to do. Still a long long way to go for us but at least the debt free date will be a bit nearer.
I checked my Noddle report yesterday omg scared myself to death. Building up my courage to check hubby's!
    Have a good day all J x

    Hi

Well done on sorting the mortgage arrears.

SC will be expecting you to increase by the full £100 unless you justify to them and they approve the other £50 so think carefully about where that needs to go.

Good luck, please let us know how you get on.

got my first letter threatening a CCJ today along with a cheque from the same company paying me my PPI claim (you really couldn't make this up could you?) - absolutely no logic or order to the way these companies act...

I'm actually quite looking forward to the call with the DCA later, how times have changed :)

Evening all :) wonders will never cease.

I posted earlier that I had received a snotagram from Halifax telling me that as I had defaulted on my dmp payment, the agreement was cancelled and I was to pay all arrears in full immediately! This letter arrived several days before the dmp payment was actually due. So I wrote very politely reminding them of the T&Cs and that payments reach creditors on the 25th of each month - and low and behold they sent a letter of apology with a £25 cheque for "any inconvenience caused".

OHs on shift tonight and we're waiting to hear if his employers will give him a few more. Nothings guaranteed though, so I'm not counting on it.

Still waiting on creditor statements so I can check whether interest has been charged, most letters I've received so far have accepted payment, but left that part out!

Well, it's a lovely (if humid) sunny evening, so I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts and chill out in the garden for an hour or so.

    Bye for now.

Well you had the bad news first and then the good news! It's amazing how when you get in control of your debts these companies don't scare you anymore. Power to the DMP!

Hi. I haven't posted here since thread 6, which is ages ago! Welcome to all newbies, though I feel a bit like one myself. :)

Hopefully my progress will inspire those of you just starting out. I was scared at the beginning, but the lovely people here steadied and reassured me in my panicky moments. I am now two thirds of the way through my debt, a position which seemed very far away when I began my DMP with SC. Two of my creditors are completely paid off and my debt free date is under two years away. It's going to be wonderful to finally be free, and the money that's been going on my debts will be for my family to enjoy instead.

There have been ups and downs along the way, and my emergency fund has recently been wiped out by the failure of both my laptop and my fridge freezer, but with the end in sight I am feeling very positive.

Anyway, this is just a little thank you to all those here for the support you give. I doubt I would have got this far without you. xxx
