Please help - Sold car and its now got a fault, buyer wants refund/bring car back
Comments

To be honest we just got in touch with the owner before he goes on hol tomorrow and he said, if it has to come back and give the guy a refund them we can.
My issue is that he will now have a broken car that wasnt broken when he sold it, the other chap has had it for 2 weeks and used it, It could have happened 6 months down the line and he would have no come back?
And that's why he shouldn't have sold it through a garage0 -

Selling cars and buying and selling car spares. Would add to their case that you are a trader.
Was it listed as selling for a friend and contact them or did you deal with it?
In the space of 1 year.
Listed as selling for a friend but I dealt with it all0 -
I think he already has a car, didnt buy from inlaws no
So he had 2 cars? Again - points to a bit of trade going on.
I would refund and avoid any comeback on your inlaws garage.
The main mistake was selling it from there.
You could hold out and see where the buyer goes next. But if i was him - i would have the garage in my sites and be reporting the 'unusual' goings on to trading standards, HMRC etc. Is it worth it?0 -

Where did he hand over the cash?
The balance of probability says this is a trade sale.
He deposited it in my account before he came for the car0 -

yes, by paperwork you mean V5, service records. There was no reciept of sale0 -
Reading through this i think what i would do is let them return the car and give them a full refund and hope it does not cost too much to fix,it may save you alot of hassle
And in future
1 Only sell your cars and goods on ebay from your home address from your ebay account
2 If you friends want to sell their cars and goods let the open their own ebay account and sell from their home address
3 Your in-laws sell cars through ebay from their forecourt through their trader ebay account0
