But the self-same posties who do this are very quick to complain when Amazon yank their business and give it to couriers. If all the Royal Mail's staff want to offer is a service to deliver a card telling you that you've got a parcel to collect, then they're signing their own death warrant.0 -

are they the same staff?0 -
In our delivery office, leaving parcels would never have been allowed. But we still had people complaining that posties did it. I even had one complain that I did it, until I told them what CD they were playing at time of delivery :rotfl:4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

I had a (739) card left on Friday, showing the wrong Delivery Office! Having gone to collect it on Saturday I was directed to the correct delivery office a 30 minute walk away, who advised me the item was not available for collection and must still be on a van somewhere.
Our postman has problems with numbers - let's say I live at No.1, due to problems with incorrectly delivered items I put a big sign immediately over the letterbox showing this fact - we still get items for No.2, No.3, and items addressed to a fish and chip shop, which is a big blue shop next door with its own letterbox - you couldn't make it up!0 -
Twice had card through the door last week, both times managed to catch postie before he left in his van."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

My only complaint is that nearly every time I pick something up from the sorting office I get home to find another card, I'm sure they hide round the corner until I've gone!14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140

I once got a card and caught up with the postie and he admitted that he hadn't brought the parcel because of its size and weight.
Given the amount he was expected to deliver and the fact that his round took him up a 120' hill I wasn't in the least annoyed - other than with the people who expected him to lug so much stuff around (there is a PO van for delivering larger/heavier parcels so why my package wasn't assigned to that I don't know.)There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
I cannot understand people sympathising with posties who have a big round and/or it's a big heavy parcel. I have no respect for an organisation or person not doing their job.
First if the parcel is too big and heavy to deliver then it's up to the Post Office where you posted the parcel to tell you and refuse to handle it. Royal mail have entered into a contract to deliver the parcel, not a card through your door.
Second you pay extra for postage of bigger and heavier parcels. As extra money is paid I would expect RM to put in the extra effort to ensure it's delivered.
Third it's surely part of the the Postie's job to deliver the parcels. If he isn't doing that then he should be subject to disciplinary procedures. Same as any other job.

Sigh
RM have no excuse for not delivering the parcel.
They have vans for delivery of larger parcels.
The postman who does our round starts with two panniers and a front carrier all stuffed full of mail and has to get most of it up a 120' hill.
To expect him to carry a package of three hardback books as well when they have a perfectly good van for carrying such items seems unreasonable.
Guess he was lucky that it was me it happened to and not you. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0
