Don't know. It isn't the idea of horse meat that squicks me out, it's that they don't know if the horses have been treated with vet drugs that shouldn't be in human food.

I agree with this. It's also worrying that the shops have no idea what they are selling us.

It can contain a cocktail of veterinary steroids, which may kick off any cancer cells laying dormant .

    Chips with it ?

I don't get the fuss either... most of the time you buy cheap sausages/burgers/etc. you are going to be eating minced up entrails, ears, noses and all other manner of leftover bits that no one would ever buy in isolation. Personally I avoid these products because of all that crap... having a bit of horse in there is much less stomach turning!!

Same here. I like to know what I'm eating, so avoid processed meat 'products'.

Delicious if it's anything like reindeer. The problem might be finding retail suppliers who will ensure that the horse they sell for human consumption has a passport* that is still rated for human consumption. A BBC story mentioned that horse is around a fifth or sixth of the cost of beef so there seems to be some serious cost-saving through cross- or down-shifting from beef to horse.

*Horses in the UK need a passport and that indicates whether they are intended for eventual human consumption. If they are, vets treating them must avoid using medication that is unsafe for the human food chain. If such medicine is used, the horse passport is modified to say it's no longer eligible for human consumption.

They are probably as concerned with protecting the consumer as much as the like of the Advertising Standards Authority (http://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/3701-500mb-usage-allowance-passes-asa-unlimited-test.html) and the Office of Fair Trading (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-21258809) are i.e., not at all.

Ok, this is a serious money saving question for a change.
If you had bought and paid for half a dozen Findus 'Beef' Lasagnes and they were in your freezer would you still eat them or throw them away?

No I would not throw them out I would eat them, but if you are that bothered about what might be in them why not email Findus to see what they have to say in light of the recent finds.

To be honest I have no problem with horse meat but it is my choice to buy and when buying beef that is what you should get.

As there has been no mention of fresh Horse meat being sold as Beef I think it is time people gave a lot of thought to exactly what they are eating when they buy ready meals.
You could just as easily cook up a batch of 6 Lasagne's with fresh meat and freeze using your own home made sauces, that way you know exactly what has gone into your food!
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.
