Hi
New to this forum. I am just decorating our bedroom which is starting to look great. I planned to steam clean the carpet but there is one fairly ugly and large stain where my wife dropped some hair dye just by the door.
I don't want to change the carpet as it has had little wear but I have tried various cleaning products and whilst the stain is now duller than it was it is still very visible.
Anyone had any success with removing dye without destroying the carpet.
Thanks

have you tried neat shampoo ? should work if the stain isn't a really old one0

Unfortunately I think you are doomed with that one0

Thanks carriebradshaw - will give the shampoo idea a try.
Fruball - I understand why you say that but I live in hope. It's just a matter of time before I wreck the carpet myself if I don't find a solution!0 -
If it's a fresh spill, hairspray worked can help prevent hair dye from setting, but it sounds like yours is an older one. Another solution if you have any off cuts of the carpet is to use a stanley knife to cut out the stain and replace it with spare carpet. If you're careful about it, once the carpet is fluffed up it's hard to spot the join.
This thread may give you some ideas:
how do I get hair dye out of the carpet
I'll add this thread to that one later to keep the ideas together.

My daughter once dyed her blonde hair brown, and we stipped it back with something out of Boots.

Could be worth a go.

If you do not manage to remove the stain can you not cut the stained part out with a stanley knife and do the same with a square under some furniture to swap over and patch it using some kind of carpet adhesive. Youtube should have instructions og how to do this and which type of glue to use. Might be alright in the short term as long as you are careful when vacuuming the new square.0

bsaby wipes get most things out, but to be honest i don't hold out much hope'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0

I was going to say try Colour-b4 as well, if it works on hair it might work on carpet.. or what squiggles said sounds quite good.0
