Well if your OH think's making your own rice is bad then what would he think of this then...............when money was tight, I made my son Happy Meal's at home... Nugget's, Chip's, Fruit shoot and when my son complained there was no toy I went under his bed found his box of cars/old Md toy's (he even had toy's still in the bag's) and gave him one of those... Bingo one happy boy!!!:j
I also make my own KFC which is so much better than the shop ... I never ever get takeaway pizza we make our own :rotfl:
I completely agree with all of this!! I think home-made always tastes far better, but my OH just sees it as hassle. Its like banging your head against a brick-wall. Love the happy meal idea though!BCSC Member 70:j

Sorry to be blunt but your OH sounds like he can be a bit of a...I'm trying to think of something tactful here. Cooking rice etc for a takeaway is entirely practical and usually only takes the time for the rest to be delivered.
As for cooking, I love it, and do most of the cooking for us (although my fiance is a good cook too). Why don't you get him to take more of an interest and see if he wants to learn to cook some stuff he likes? Maybe send him on a Chinese or Indian cookery course (or even better, Japanese), or there are a couple of really good Italian cookery books with recipes from the mafia that I've been wanting to get.
BTW, which pizza place were you using, I haven't noticed such a big difference between colleciton and delivery deals.0 -

Just to add to the conversation with the ONLY bit of cooking information that I know (Mrs Dither is the master chef in our household, I haven't a clue) is that you must not re-heat rice because it can cause food poisoning.
Uncooked rice can contain spores of Bacillus cereus, bacteria that can cause food poisoning. When the rice is cooked, the spores can survive. Then, if the rice is left standing at room temperature, the spores will germinate into bacteria. These bacteria will multiply and may produce toxins (poisons) that cause vomiting or diarrhoea. Reheating the rice won't get rid of these toxins.
So, the longer cooked rice is left at room temperature, the more likely it is that bacteria, or the toxins they produce, could stop the rice being safe to eat.

Thanks Dithering Dad! Therefore home cooked rice is much safer as I know for a fact that many takeaway places reheat their rice!Proud to be dealing with my debts :j

Suprising, but true. Rice can actually be quite dodgy, esp if its that rice salad thats been sitting on the buffet for five hours. All inclusive holiday goers beware!BCSC Member 70:j

see we were told in the class (and i subsiquently asked a chef) that as long as you cool it quickly (submerged in cold water) then keep it in the fridge it can be re-heated ..the cooling down of the rice slows the bacteria growing process down till it stops ...or have i been told wrong? you need to have kindve cold rice to make fried rice any way ...oh no am i wrong here can i be poisoning us all0

No you're right! You need cold rice to make a stirfry. The problem is *holding* the rice at a certain temperature, e.g. 50 C, which is warm, but also the right temperature to allow bacteria to multiply. By plunging the rice in cold water, you're in effect rapidly cooling the rice to a temperature where bacteria can't really multiply. An in stir-frying, you're rapidly raising the temperature to over 70 degrees, where bacteria start to die, so the food is again safe.
Sorry, got a bit techie there.BCSC Member 70:j
