Sorry if I gave the wrong idea. He offered to give a credit for 1 night, then to debit it the next day, for the purpose, he said, of "giving you a chance to get it together." I found that an insulting thing to say, but didn't say that.0

Thank you everyone for replying to this.
It's 2 days later. I miss the programmes, and am able to pay, but am concerned about the poor treatment, so will not be going back.
Also, for those who posted as if my record is utterly poor, I've been in good credit with them, so am shocked that this happened after 1 late payment.
Thank you everyone.0 -
Had you been folowing Martin's recommendation and been paying by DD (and not therefore paying Sky's non-DD rates), it wouldn't have been paid late (and you'd have more money).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Adding insult to injury, I later got a request for feedback asking if I felt the person who helped on the phone rewarded my customer loyalty!!!
If they had re-instated your Sky till you paid the next day. How was the rep to know that you wouldn't do the same as the previous month and not pay and wait till you were a month arrears.0
