Why don't Landlords clean once tenants have left?

Options
I viewed a Live In Landlord setup recently and got suspicious because he only showed me the bedrooms and nothing else. I asked if I could see the kitchen and he said OK. I opened a cupboard and it was full of rotting and moulding food!!! he was like 'yea that'l be sorted when someone moves in'.

To make it worse he said they moved out 2 months ago...

I look out the window and see it's got x5 double mattresses that I'm guessing have been chucked out after every tenant, all dirty and soiled meaning the garden cant be used...

Dont even get me started on the flats that stink...

    Yeuch!!!!!!!!!

My daughter just moved into a flat in Edin which had all been emptied really well and she just had to wipe over the cupboards and her flat in London, the landlord had very high standards - I think you've been unlucky. Does the search go on??

I saw one where the property was collapsing. no doors as the flat was too small, main doors off hinges. creaky floorboards, like abnormally... like something was broken underneath the carpet... or a dead body!

I find the tenant adverts are far better as they're trying to impress! so they clean every spot, they even wash up!

I must admit I was shocked and disgusted when I visited my daughter in halls..... the building was fine but the state of the place was off the scale disgusting. I couldnt help myself - I told them all they were a disgrace and if I knew their mothers I would be emailing pics!! LOL:eek:

Was quite amusing as I was a young mum so only about 10 years older than some of them....:rotfl:

They should, but if they fail to do so then the landlord has the right to keep hold of some of their security deposit to cover the cleaning costs.

Even if a previous tenant leaves the place like a pigsty, the landlord should still sort it so it's clean enough for someone to move into.

If you do end up moving into a place you didn't check thoroughly, be sure to take photos of ANY and ALL problems like lack of cleaning, broken furniture and fixtures etc. Then send it to the inventory team with a full breakdown of all the complaints/problems.

Some awful landlords are notorious for charging tenants for broken items which weren't correctly inventoried in the first place. The money they receive is never used to rectify the problem and they go on to repeat this process until someone catches onto the problem.
