  • does anybody else get an exclamation mark at top saying there is error on the application even though I have filled everything in? Thanks
  • Signed up for Cheap Energy Club. Put in my present tariff and annual usage in kWh. They said I'm already on lowest deal they can find (uSwitch and Which said the same). However, my present deal with nPower runs out end of February. Will the Energy Club take account of this and give me a new quote before 1st March in time to switch or does it assume I am permanently on this nPower tariff and compare with that forever more?

I tried to re-enter details using the Standard tariff I go onto in March but I couldn't edit anything.

Spent several hours making a spreadsheet to check if the energy club suggested cheapest tariff was actually the cheapest for me. Taken over 12 months it is! I will save £70 and get £30 cashback so £100 saved over 12 months. Unless SSE jack up their prices higher than the competition then I am stuck with the £50 exit fee- they shouldn't really be allowed to charge exit fees on variable tariffs! However- warning to other users- if I had gone direct to SSE I would have got a £100 bill credit as well as the £70 saving. So it pays to check if its cheaper to go direct to the supplier rather than switch through energy club.

It is always better to use the comparison sites as a pointer and then verify what the actual cost will be for your annual usage yourself. Relatively easy with fixed tariffs, but a few assunptions and bits of guesswork are required otherwise. Then let other factors like cashback and exit fees influence your decision.
If you are able to create your own analysis, using a spreadsheet perhaps, then you can also try different "what-if" scenarios and see how the cost will vary if your usage increases or decreases by 10% say.
For example, it is currently a good few degrees colder than it was this time last year, so my annual gas usage (as I have gas central heating) is creeping up.

  • Hi, I'm looking to switch my Electricity and Gas, and have joined the Cheap Energy Club. One thing I can't find out however, is that I currently have a Homecare contract with British Gas. If I move away from them, will that still be ongoing? I'd like to keep it if possible.

    Thanks in advance.
  • Hi
I love the idea of being alerted but now I've joined I'm confused because the club sent me a comparison saying that Southern Electric would save me £59/yr. Same result when I went to moneysupermarket to cross check, BUT ... checked on uswitch and the same deal said it would cost £12 MORE per year?! Am I missing something?
    Thanks

Check on the Southern Electric website.

Don't forget to input your anticipated annual consumption figures in kWh for an accurate output :)
  • I'm registered with the CEC and I tried to do a change from EON to Southern Energy this morning and, when I clicked the button to switch, it just took me back to the login screen. After 3 attempts, I did the switch with another comparison site.

I've just filled in my details and I can save money !!!

My fixed rate finished on 31/3/13, when is it best to switch to avoid early exit fees?

Or should I just wait til 01/04/13?
    Fat and proud lol
