CHICKENPOX!!!!

I've just taken a look in at him and since I put him to bed there are blisters come up on his eyelids and on the insides of his wrists. It is amazing how quick the blisters come up. Dread to think what he'll be like by the morning, going by the rate that the blisters are appearing just now. The kids room is always kept cool due to them having eczema so hopefully that should help and the antihistamines. The guy on NHS24 told me to use calpol too, the only thing with that is due to him being unable to tolerate simple sugars etc, it just makes him itchy so you are fighting a losing battle. I hope he doesn't any up back in hospital again, he's fairly been through the wringer in such a short space of time. Fingers crossed...“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. My eldest got chickenpox when he was 16months old and hated having calamine lotion put on, so he played in the bath/shower a lot which seemed to help his temperament and the itching

Whilst the blisters do appear v quickly, they didn't take too long to dry up, about 4-5days and they're not infectious once they've dried up so you'll be able to get out and about again
Also he, nor his baby brother who was only 5 weeks old  got any in their mouths/ears so fingers crossed your lo doesn't too.0 -
When my son was little and had chickenpox, I ended up getting shingles. I knew I had chickenpox as a child so thought I would be OK. Not sure if this was coincidence or whether or not you have a risk of shingles (apparently it is the same virus). Hope not too many more blisters have appeared on your little one.0

He's just had his breakfast and no problems so he probably hasn't got any in his mouth but early days yet but I see that he has got blisters in his ears that are bugging him and quite a few on his eyelids. His brother doesn't have any blisters yet but the NHS24 guy said that it is more than likely that he will catch chickenpox too so probably best to keep him off school.
Shopndrop,
I did get chickenpox when I was little and hopefully I'll be ok but a friend of mine got shingles and her doc said that it was one of the worst cases she had ever seen. When she described her symptoms etc it sounded absolutely horrendous, think I'd rather go through labour again than get shingles so hopefully I won't be affected. Make a solution of bicarbonate of soda in warm water (couple of tablespoons in a basin ) and stand him in the bath and sponge it over him. Then dont rinse off but dry him with a hairdryer which is less uncomfortable. My kids used to find this soothing and you can do it several times a day if you want too. Also dont forget liquid piriton as an antihistamine that can help reduce itching and give a better nights sleep.
My other tip is to keep them as cool as you can ie dont wrap him up in loads of clothes i do believe that this hels reduce the number of spots.0 -
Oh poor little mites!
The NHS link was very helpful. I've never had it and neither has my husband. I'm wondering whether I could be immunised before getting pregnant again, because I'm probably more likely to get it now I have a son and I sometimes have to take steroids and chicken pox when your pregnant AND on steroids can't be good for the baby...
I think if it was me with 2 little ones stuck inside, one of them poorly, I think it would be jigsaws, books, playdough and cbeebies! Nice restful things. For you as well as them! And home made smoothies...May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

My eldest daugther has had CP 4 times according to my HV. I had to take her each time to get a confirming letter so I didnt have to pay nursery fees !!. So 4 times, but all quite mild, not too many spots. This was fortunate when she had the outbreak in Majorca ! a long sleeved tshirt covered them for the flight home !!. I found that calamine was ok for that minute when it was cold and wet, but when it dried it started to itch !.0

my 4 year old had it twice in 6 months and i used calamine cream which i got from sainsburys about £ 1.25 a tub - easier to put on and not so messy - i had chickenpox at 17 it was awfuli'm living in a parallel universe0

SmileyMum, if they have eczema as well, then a phone call to the National Eczema Society may be worthwhile to see if they've got any bright ideas!Signature removed for peace of mind0
