Thanks for that alison - Ididn't know there was a vaccine in this country for adolescents and adults.
One of my sisters twins came down with chickenpox day after they'd gone to Cyprus on holiday. The Cypriot doctor told my sister that they vaccinate their children on Cyprus.0

I didn't know about the vaccine either actually- its interesting what they say about when your are "infectious" - as they are same family as coldsores and I know they are thought to be infectious when the sore is open and weeping.:heart2:Mum to my little Daisy 3 and Archie 1.:heart2:0

I had shingles years ago. I used to listen to readers at my children's primary school and I didn't want to let them down by not turning up. It would have been better if I'd stayed at home cos loads of the kid's got chickenpox.
My doctor hadn't told me that shingles can be passed on as chickenpox.

            Just to update-
eldest one a lot better - but wants togo back to school and I also want him too as he's missing out on his 1st few weeks in reception.
Just rang school to see when he can return & been told not while he has visible chickenpox even if scabbed over on his hands, arms & face.
Now he has got a few large noticible ones onhis face, not helped by fact he's picked a couple -despite warnings not to!
The school secretary said the school was well aware that he is not contagious anymore but they have this policy in place because of attitudes of other parents, who would be unhappy with the return of a child with noticible sores and may keep their own kids off school.
So looks like return Monday at best.0

thats just silly, is not doing him any favours having off more time than he needs.0

            I agree 160
In conversation with another mum she'd come across same prob at school when hers had it and they're now teenagers
 ???
Tho it doesn't help me I can see schools point - look at the person who posted the nhs direct link cos s/he said that some info on this thread was incorrect.
Maybe it's time to introduce the vaccine ???0
