My eldest dd can vouch for the fact you can get chicken pox more than once, calamine cream is much easier to apply and stays where it should, it's cheap as well.

I took my eldest out when spotty not us filled though, people look but they are happy to treat you like the plague you may get the park to yourselves!

Shingles can not be triggered by being in contact with someone with chicken pox, shingles is the reactivation of chicken pox, I have never had chicken pox a lot of people are immune I'm hoping I am one of them as I'm getting old now ;)

I am not a medical person by the way, my only qualification is looking after 3 people(husband & 2 kids) with chicken pox at the same time over Christmas.

Does anyone know where I can get calamine cream from?
  • A couple of points to add to mini's reply above.
A lot of people have chicken pox as a child that has been either mild or not recorded/remembered by their parents, hence they have immunity to a greater or lesser degree. It is rare but possible to have chicken pox twice.
The rash is infectious for about 5 days after develping or until all the lesions have crused over but ia also for 4 days prior to the rash appearing. The incubation period ie from when you catch it until the rash develops is 11-21 days.

I have 2 rare children who have had chickepox twice, I am so proud!

Calamine cream, I just asked for it at local chemist after it was recommended to me it was a small tub but it lasted for ages.

My doctor told me that you can only get Shingles if you have already had chicken pox - even if it was 40 years ago.

Maybe you had a mild case of chicken pox when you were little. As far as I know you can only get shingles if you have had chicken pox. Did you have a sort of blistery rash on your leg?
