He said in his post that those apply to HHCRO only.

But it is ridiculously complicated, the whole thing.

I know and I was confused

I currently work under 30 hours so can't get working tax credits. I own my own home so don't have the 'luxury' of a landlord/HA paying out for CH upgrades.

I currently have solid fuel CH and that costs a fortune to run in winter. I did get free loft insulation on the CSCO scheme as that was based on postcode not my circumstances.

I also got the gas connection put in for free also because of my postcode. I have been thinking about going down the Everlasting Boilers/Hasslefree Boilers route.

    whats the everlasting boilers?

£1500 cashback is all well and good but I don't have the money to pay for the rest.

I'm in a similar situation, I had a broken back boiler, and no heating.

I looked into the green deal and managed to get a free green deal assessment from NWS - and thank goodness it was free as it soon became apparent it would have been a waste of money...

I then contacted the Energy Saving Trust, who sent me a list of all the Green Deal providers covering my area. I contacted all of them immediately by email, many didn't reply.

Those I spoke to told me the way to get the £1K cashback was to have a boiler fitted with an integral flue heat return system, or whatever it is called - they said it would be more expensive as I was going from a back boiler to a combi, and they quoted me between 3.5-4.5k for this, on which I would have got £1k back... I couldn't afford the minimum 2.5k this would cost me (only 1.5K of which would have been available on Green Deal finance, as the enery savings were not sufficient for me to borrow more via Green Deal, and the APR is not very competitive anyway), so I looked into other options.

A local fitter quoted me £1600 to remove the back boiler, tank, and to fit a worcestershire bosch combi boiler.

As there was a scheme offering £270 back if you got a new boiler fitted (this ended at the end of June) I looked into claiming this - it turns out you need a green deal provider to process the cashback - but none of them were interested, as they said it was not worth their time financially.

Again, I rang the Energy Saving Trust, and they told me there was nothing that could be done about this.

I think this is a real problem, the Green Deal funding is government money, but access to it is being obstructed by provate companies, and they seem to have all the power here.

Eventually I decided just to get the local gas fitter to do it and ignore the Green Deal... much less hassle, and it was ultimately the cheapest option at £1600!

(British Gas quoted almost £5k minus a £400 voucher for exactly the same job, but wanted to bung the boiler on a wall next to the cooker, which would have been unsightly - the local gas man fitted it neatly into an existing wall cupboard!).

Wish I could get my money back on the assessment I had done. I specifically went with a local company that was also a provider so they could quote on the recommended works too, without any potential delay in communication etc.

Since asking them to quote on their report I've sent two follow up emails asking for an update or to give me the quote, no resposes at all, not even a 'we're working on it'.

Is there somewhere you can complain to, it's a load of cr*p?

Exactly the reason why I don't want to folk out £100+ for a Green Deal assessment as it will be pointless. Either it won't be worth while or they will just recommend bull items like air heat pumps and crap.

Last time I checked, coal cost less per kWh than gas. Cant find any recent figures though, so I could be wrong.

I don't burn coal. I burn smokeless solid fuel which currently costs £8 for a 25KG bag. I could easily burn a whole bag in one evening in winter. Tell me how that is cheaper than gas.

I don't have a new fangled trendy wood burning stove that everyone is installing these days. I have a Parkray closed door fire.
  • I'm currently in the process of getting some quotes for a new boiler and installation. My brother pointed me in the direction of the green deal and i was a little dubious of whether i'd get any help. The reason i was dubious is that me and my partner both work full time, no benefits, so usually can't get any help.

This morning i've called the Energy Saving Trust and been advised i wouldn't get any help unless i had either, double glazing, cavity wall insulation or loft insulation fitted with a new boiler. I've already got these, so they advised best bet is to speak with my local council for their energy saving scheme.

Surprise surprise, after speaking with my local council, unless i'm one of the several workshy in my area they will not be able to help
