Havent read any of the replies but my reply is simple ... NO he cannot have one rat ..... He must have two or more

Rats make awesome pets and are much better than grouchy hamsters. Big cage, two rats ... lots of fun ... Oh and name at least one of them after your ex husband :rotfl:

I had an ex who worked hard to make his non-contact the kids fault.

The best thing I could teach them as their mother was not to let anyone bully you, not to take on responsibility for someone else's choices just because they push it at you - and to be true to yourself and not compromise what you want, no matter who the person is that is bullying you.

Hang touch, and good luck with yoru rats.

Do you really want them to go away with a prat like that? Not sure I'd trust him to take proper care of them tbh.

As for the rat decision - tell him to jog on - cheeky so and so! I don't know how you've not already told him!
  • I would recommend getting male rats too. Females always seem to be more prone to illnesses than the males.

My females were little sl*ts too. Sealed up tightly in their cage, across the room from my man (his friend had died a few months earlier), nope, "out we go, lets go find me a man" Many weeks later, 14 babies popped out of her! Was quite funny at the time.

Few little piccies for you/your son :D

Rats make great pets and I would also suggest that you get 2 of them.

My children had a pair of sisters from a rat rescue and they were lovely.

Without trying to sound too stupid, is there a differance between pet rats, and ones that are unwanted like erm hunt in bins/ don't live in a cage/ get food places shut down?

They're the same species, but fancy rats have been selectively bred for generations to produce cute, docile, tame rats.

Think of it in the same way as wild wolves and pet dogs.

That's a really good way of explaining it thank you :)

The pics make them look quite cute, but not when there bald, they look like moles.
