I had to ring my insurance company with details.. but they wrote to her insurance company who accepted full liability and responsibility for it...[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

If the other driver accepts liability for the accident then you have to 'inform' your insurer - but you need not make a 'claim' on your insurance. The call centres don't like this and try to point out the so called benefits of making a claim e.g. they deal with the other party's insurance company -big deal if the other driver has admitted liability! So be very clear that you are informing and not claiming. This happened to me last December cost me two phone calls to the other insurance company, I needed to take my car to a authorised repairer and I got a much better hire car! No affect on my NCD.0

thanks for that sobraon. Must be too late for me now as I did not realise you could do this and the insurance company indeed sorted it out and claimed from the opposition party....
So basically they screwed me for some extra money on my next premium... Grrr hope it doesnt effect me if i go elsewhere...[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

They ask two different questions, have you had any claims? And, have you had any accidents?
The first affects your NCB, the second can affect your premium
You have an accident……
If you claim on your insurance but your company get the money back because it was someone else’s fault then your NCB will not be affected i.e. if you have a premium of £1000 then 60% NCB will reduce it to £400.
But, if your insurance company’s actuarial tables tell them that for instance “people who have an accident are 30% more likely than average to have another accident in the next three years” then they can (and will) increase your premium to reflect this additional risk so then your max NCB still reduces your premium by 60% it’s just that your premium has gone up to £1200 so when reduced by 60% comes to £480.
Also note that not all companies will load your premium for fault accidents. Direct line don’t, Elephant do. But in my case, Elephant even with the extra £100 loading were still cheaper than DL. As I said previously, I got Elephant to confirm the amount of the loading and then claimed it off the insurance company of the at fault driver.0 -
It is a fact that insurance companies almost take a loss during the first year of car insurance. If you went into your current insurers as a fresh customer it will invariably be cheaper. ALWAYS shop around, every year, without fail. Insurance companies rely on you renewing your car insurance, especially those who automatically 'renew' it, unless you actually cancel it beforehand.

They're about the same as each other. Some companies, Tesco and Direct Line, for example, don't allow external companies to trawl their website for prices. This normally will show up on the search. In these cases you have to go to the companies individually. I have gone with Tesco this year."...IT'S FRUITY!"0 -
OMFG
CANT BELIEVE THIS *RAGE*
Phoned insurance company. Apparently the girl never filled out the form to say it was her fault. This was LAST SEPTEMBER and the insurance company just didn't tell us. Instead simply put my premium up!
So now I have to pay the higher premium, but the insurance company are going to sue this stupid stupid stupid girl (first issue a letter saying they'll be taking it to court)...
Meanwhile I'm stuck paying a laod extra which I might not get back!!! This is disgarcefulI'm only a student! Cant afford all this!
