Slight change of plans for today. I was planning on going shopping at Sainsbury's today, but I discovered that this Friday-Sunday they are offering double points! That means I'll be braving the insane crowds on Friday to do my shop.

    Hugs to everyone!

  • Morning ladies!

Congratulations to all the recent BFP's. I have to admit I've had to take a bit of a step back from this thread over the last few weeks, I've found it a bit difficult when people come in and say we're TTC then a few weeks later they're pregnant. Was just in a bit of a negative place really and thought I best not be on here.

Been to see my GP this morning about TTC. Thankfully she was really lovely and didn't just dismiss me. My blood pressure and weight was fine and she's asked me to go for some blood tests between CD 2 - 7 as there's a history of early menopause in my family so she wants to check my hormone levels ( she was originally wanting me to have CD21 bloods done but thinks this other one is more important ). DH also needs to make an appointment to give a sperm sample so he can have a SA done. She also mentioned that if my tests came back fine we'd be referred, does that mean to a fertility clinic or something?

As a side note FF has worked out that my due date if I were to get pregnant this month would be hubby's birthday, so you never know, maybe this month is our month?!

  • Great to hear about your experience today Chocoholic.
I've got my first GP appointment today and I'm really really nervous for some reason. We've been trying for over 18 months so I suppose we've just been putting it off. I think we just hate the thought of "medicalising" the whole thing. Gahh!

Where does the other halves go for SA? Is it a special clinic? I assume it's not the GP surgery?

Hugs to all that need it. Don't feel bad about ranting, it helps to know someone else is in the same boat!

The thing with the SA is that the analysis has to be done really quickly. If you do it later then the S will be dead, so they can't do as good a review.

I think they should have it under the microscope within the hour ideally. So it's best if it is done at the hospital or clinic. TBH, after issues with the NHS, both in booking and analyzing the results, I'd vote for investing in a private SA. I know others here have had problems - it is one thing the NHS are really poor at. Basically because it requires swiftness!

Plus DH let me know that the private facilities were much nicer. He said at the NHS one the walls were really thin. He said it's hard to provide a 'sample' when you can still hear homes under the hammer from the waiting room!

Just de-lurking to share SA knowledge.

As with everything (so it seems), it's different by area. As has already been said, the analysis needs to be done on a warm/ fresh sample.

In some areas, it is done at home & then it has to be taken to hospital quickly for testing. In my area, OH had to go to the hospital & do the job there!

The NHS were fine for us on this (& being over 40/ overweight, the basic bloods & SA were the only tests we were eligible for).

Choc - can't you have the CD21 bloods too? It's a standard basic fertility test so would be good for you to know the results - especially combined with SA & bloods from early in your cycle.

Whilst I'm here, I would just add that I got pg with a BMI of about 35. I'm not proud of being overweight & accept that loosing weight would have been good for me, but a lower BMI doesn't = pregnancy. Overweight women do get pg. I'm now 37 weeks pg & am 7lb lighter than when I got pg.
  • Well I think he has to make an appointment with the GP to go in and discuss having a SA done so I don't think he has to "produce" his sample there :rotfl:I'm guessing he'll be told he needs to go somewhere else to sort that but we'll see what happens. It's a step forward at least. ( I burst out laughing when I read the homes under the hammer comment, must have been rather off putting! )

I don't know, maybe if this blood test comes back ok they might then ask for CD21 bloods to be taken too? She did have a bit of a giggle when asking about my cycles and I pulled out my phone to go through the FF app, said I clearly knew my stuff :rotfl:she did make a note of it though as she said it's useful to know there are those types of things out there and it might be useful for other patients in similar situations.

Afternoon everyone, hope you're all well :)

Yay for positive GP experience chocoholic_chick hope things start happening for you soon.

I'm impressed by your cheap shopping Mrs_T_M I love a good bargain myself and get ridiculously excited if I get a cheap deal in the supermarket.

AFM FF has given me crosshairs putting me at 7DPO. I'm not sure I believe it, I think I'm more like 3DPO and probably expecting AF any time soon as my luteal phase was a whopping 3 days last cycle :o

I came off contraception in July but I think being on it so long (15+ years) may have knackered my cycles . Did anyone else use the implant and have issues afterwards?

In non TTC related news I've had a weird experience today. I was on Facebook in bed last night, looking at who would be attending a friends birthday as I was worried an ex of mine would be going with his new gf. We're on good terms but I just didn't want to deal with it! Anyway, I was nodding off and fumbled my phone. I must've accidentally sent my ex's new gf a friend request cause when I got up this morning she'd accepted it  I only met her once. I bet they think I'm some sort of stalker psycho!! Stuff like this always happens to me.:o

Glad your appointment went well Chocoholic

Mrs TM hope the crowds weren't too bad! Didn't realise it was double points this weekend - I hope its not just a local thing.

Lollypop - I just wondered whether you took anything else as well as the B6 vitamin? Thanks

Can I be updated to CD1 please
