Trying for a Baby Part 9

Hey ladies,
I'm a little bit confused. The other day I took an OPK as I wanted to see a negative one so I had something to compare to a positive next month - if that makes sense. There was a very faint line and the dark control line.
I took another one today - and the two lines are almost the same colour! I'm definitely not ovulating because I'm due my period tomorrow and woke up with bad AF cramps (although they lessened after I'd gone and had a big wee). Anyone know why I'd be having a positive OPK? I'm 10 DPO?
Sorry for all the questions - I'm new to this so still trying to figure it all out. Hugs for anyone who may need one.
Either you got ovulation wrong, or the OPK is detecting the pregnancy hormone. However, at only 10dpo it is highly unlikely you would be getting such a dark OPK from hCG.
My guess is that you got ov wrong and are currently surging. Take a pregnancy test and see what it says14th October 201020th October 20113rd December 20130 -
If you only saw a faint line on the first test it wasn't a positive. The line has to be as dark, or darker than, the control line to be +ve.0

The other option is that you have an oestrogen surge towards the end of your cycle that triggers LH to be released. I get ewcm and positive opks a few days before AF is due.
Not good news here I'm afraid. DH's team are being disbanded. Just waiting to find out if he will be sent elsewhere or be let go which will hopefully happen tomorrow.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0 -

I know the first test was a negative - just wondering why the second one was darker. The second one (today) was pretty much as dark as the control line.
Thanks for the answers - I really don't think I've got my ovulation date wrong as I've always been regular/cycle roughly the same length. This is my first month properly tracking ov though. I'm already on CD 38 and expecting my period tomorrow, would be very unusual for me to have longer than 40 day cycle.
Who knew it was all so mathematical and confusing. :rotfl:
I only have one pregnancy test at home at the moment so I'm reluctant to use it when I haven't even missed my period. Going to see what tomorrow brings. :T
Edit: That is interesting to know Code, thank you! Sorry to hear about your bad news.0 -
I'd still guess at incorrect ovulation. If you've never tracked it before, it could have been delayed this month for some reason.
Code's theory is not one I have ever heard before. Oestrogen does increase towards the end of the cycle but I have no idea why that would cause LH to be peak since it's only fuction is to 'force' the release of a mature egg. I certainly never got any hint of a line on an OPK just before AF was due.
Good luck and well done for having the patience to wait it out14th October 201020th October 20113rd December 20130 -

Maybe I'm just a weirdo. Would certainly explain lots of things.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0 -
Feel so down today on the verge of tears. Wish I wasn't at work. Dh is away tonight so I've got loads of choccy for when I get home. Stupid hormones, I remember when my due date seemed ages away and now it'll be here in less than 2 weeks. Sorry just needed to be self indulgent for a moment.
Hugs to all x0 -
CD1 here too. Bum bags and fanny flaps
. Got one more cycle until I see my gynae consultant next month and would love to go to her with some positive news. Unfortunately I've got another hospital appointment early next month for something different and I have a feeling it'll trigger some tests (possible CT scan) so think we're going to have to hold off TTC this cycle as I want to get it all out the way. It'll also be my second Fathers Day without my dad this Sunday and I'm taking it quite hard.
On the plus side, we're going to London next weekend for 3 nights and seeing the Killers at Wembley Stadium which should be good.
Sorry that everyone else is down too. Hugs for all the CD1s, seems to be a lot of us around that time!Welcome to Lannieduck and Linz4383. Hope your stay here is short and sweet!
