Hi ladies
Sorry to gate crash your thread and I really hope you don't mind a quick question...
I just got married and my husband and I are looking forward to trying for a baby in about 6 months' time. I was just wondering, what advice do you have for preparing your body/life/home/relationship etc for trying for a baby? For example how early did you start taking folic acid etc? We want to do this right and properly and give ourselves the best chance of conceiving when the time comes round
One big thing for me is my BMI is about 30 at the moment so I know I need to lose weight.
Did any of you go to see your practice nurse for pre-conception counselling, getting rubella immunity etc checked? My sister is a medical student and she has told me this is what I need to do but I have never heard of it before and not sure if it's a normal thing or not?
Anyway, I really hope no one minds me asking these questions - it all feels a bit daunting. Please tell me though if I am out of line posting here and I will remove the post xx
And finally best wishes and good luck to all of you!0 -
Congratulates Amy so pleased for your news, even if the work situation was a bit stressful!
Daisiegg welcome. There is such a thing as pre conception counselling although some gps may laugh at you. In terms of preparation for you, eating and drinking healthily, not overdoing exercise, taking at folic acid supplement for three months before ttc, and most importantly, getting to know your cycles (use an app to track them if you want like fertility friend). There are some good books about ttc that usually include a preparation chapter. Try not to stress too much (easier said than done) and good luck! Enjoy baby making ;-)0 -
Hello everyone!
Congratulations Amy! fantastic news
Sorry for being MIA after being so down the other day. I am more positive now!
Becca, please could you put me as CD4 tomorrow.
Was really upset on Monday when I came on which lasted all night as I was up for most of the night with terrible cramps. Has been a really weird AF as usually I start day 1 with bright red blood but this time it was dark brown before it turned red, and was fairly light until yesterday, and then today it's heavier than ever. I didn't appreciate until we started TTC that supermarkets can be quite thoughtless by putting feminine hygiene products in the same aisle as the baby stuff.
Anyway my PMA list is:
I can drink alcohol for another few weeks including when celebrating my wedding anniversary.
We can save a bit more money...
I won't be giving birth straight after Christmas when money is always tight anyway...!
I am a bit worried though about the fact I am due to be a bridesmaid next April and the bride is not aware that we've been TTC since before she was engaged. So I either have to stop trying if it doesn't happen this month, or continue trying and risk ruining all her photos as a blimp in a dress and/or with a baby in tow... I feel very guilty about this.0 -

Our maternity policy at work says that we should be tested for rubella immunity prior to TTC, but I haven't done so. Has anyone else?0 -

You will be tested for rubella antibodies as part of your normal antenatal care, and if found to be non-immune will be prescribed an MMR for after delivery. Of course if you can manage to sort this before TTC then that's one less thing to worry about. The major vaccination to check about when TTC / pregnant is for whooping cough as you can pass immunity to the child0 -
daisie egg - I dont know anyone who saw a dr before getting pregnant - in some places a dr wont even see you when you ARE pregnant and you get sent straight to the midwife so personally I wouldnt bother because there is nothing they could really tell you thats not common sense.
Take folic acid about 3 months before you try, eat healthily and exercise a bit
And if you want you could track your cycles, or come off any hormonal contraception in advance to see what happens to your cycle incase it goes wonky for a while!
I just ordered some inositol online, after reading lots of good stuff about it regulating peoples cycles after TLs suggestion. Something else to try I guess. Plus its the only thing Ive read apart from soy that can help ovulation and the soy tablets were too big for me, whereas this I can buy in a powder and add to drinks.
ttc39 - I was wondering as I find sometimes seeing what your temp is doing is useful. Maybe its pre AF spotting? Or maybe the mystery implantation spotting although kinda early even for that..0
