I didn't want to suggest them as I don't know about them either. Yes, they will be "grey" products. DigitalRev has been going a while. Can you pay with Paypal on any of them? That would give me some degree of assurance if there were any problems.

have you looked into the s-line of canons...i have the s90, the s110 is currently out...a bit out of range, so you could still get an s100 or s95. as good as the canon g-line, but without the viewfinder and hotshoe, and thus less bulky. same quality of photo. an excellent bridge camera.

I really want that f1.4 lens... Plus I've got a big compatable flashgun from my Panny SLR. Maybe I'll use a red marker pen too andpretendits a Leica

I've not got a PayPal account. I'm hoping I'd get protection using my Visa credit card. Digitalrev keeps cropping up as very reputable

I bought a Canon PowerShot SX260 HS compact camera. It falls somewhat below the price range being looked at, so maybe not up for your consideration.

Not as compact as some but it does have a 20x optical zoom lens. The image stabilizing seems good at full zoom too. This is what attracted me to it as much as anything. I found the 3.6x zoom of the previous compact a bit limiting at times.

It gets pretty good reviews in general. haven't had the camera for too long but I'm very pleased with it so far. I bought locally this time. Sometimes nice to go into a shop, handle and try the goods then buy on the spot.

  • Thanks mart44, but i'm not after a 'travel zoom' camera. I've rarely felt the need to do big zooming, and my current Samsung can already do 18x (even if it's very slow at focusing when it does that). I've also got a 300mm prime for my SLR (manual focus, after the crop factor its really a 600mm lens) when I want to pretend to be a pap

I just need to find a place in London to try the Panasonic LX7 out this week. I'm going to be near Westminster on Thursday; I must be able to find somewhere near there to try it out.

Bear in mind though that you aren't going to get anything like the shallow depth of field you'd get with 1.4 on a DSLR. But you will get the low light benefit.

Yep, i know that.. the sensor is too small. I've got an f1.8 for my SLR, but it's manual focus and an absolute pain to use. I made a poor choice and bought a four thirds system camera back in 2008. The lenses cost a fortune!

Ultimately, I want it for really good quality family photos at home and on trips; without the need to pack my (now aging) SLR.
