    Because

    A) you do not need to refer to posters as Dicks as it is offensive.
    B) The tones of your posts are done in such a manner as to provoke an argument .

Well, he said he didn't mind so it can't be that offensive.

    and

You are saying i am basically not allowed to disagree with someone who is wrong becuase it will provoke an agument? What happen to free speach?

As I was once reminded, this board isn't about free speech, it's all guided under Martin's rules and he doesn't want arguments here. It's for support.

Maybe you should practice what he preaches then. I didn't see me getting any support when you all hunted out my posts to pick holes in my posts.

Would it not be best if jonto just told us what he does for a living and then perhaps we can get on with the serious business of advising instead of having a go at each other?

    Peace

No you didn't, but i didn't hear you telling them to be supportive and welcoming to a new member did I.

Why does it matter what I do for a living. I am not offering advice, merely my opinion, if it conflicts with other members then that is unfortunate.

To be offering advice on a BBS would be dangerous and foolish and leave people open to all sorts of action.

I state facts and opinions. Nothing more, nothing less.

So damned if I do, damned if I don't.

I don't even recall seeing you here until the past couple of days. The only thing I think I've said was that I saw nothing wrong with them questioning you, I'd be saying the same if you were questioning them.

Doesn't matter a jot to me what you do for a living but if people are interested, why not just tell them? I know I wouldn't mind telling anyone that I'm a SAHM.

I must point out, jonto, that one of your earlier posts on this thread did state "In my experience they are not viewed any differently.", which does not imply opinion but advice.

So that constitutes advice does it?

Sounds like me stating my opinion. In orders words through my experience i have formed the opinion that they are not viewed any differently.

The definition of advice according to the Oxford Dictionary is "to offer guidance or recommendations with regard to future action". Now, i don't recall me doing that in relation to my quote above, do you?

This really is becoming a witch hunt.

Okay, well what everyone is asking is "what is your experience?" People are going to make comments like the ones which have been made if they don't know what you do. For instance, if you are someone working in the financial sector, legal sector, insolvency, something like that then you will have experience of these things, if you are a plumber you won't have (unless you know a lot of people who have gone bankrupt). It is not a witch hunt, we simply want an answer to a simple question.
