I used to cut my own hair whilst at uni - but it was shortish, spikey and backcombed so could get away with it :D I used a sort of comb that cut as it went through the hair. No idea what it was called, but my Mum cut my Dad's hair with one for years!

Then I grew it long and paid the hairdressers to cut it once or twice a year.

My partner used to complan that the barbers always cut his hair too short, but he didnt want to ask for a slight trim as he still had to pay full price. So I offered to have a go. He must've been happy since I've been cutting it now for 15 years! For men you just need a decent trimmer and good pair of scissors.

My hair's short again and I once asked my partner to try trimming the back of mine with the trimmers........never again!!! lol

I cut my son's hair too - it definately helps with kids to put them in front of a mirror and give them something to eat!

I've been cutting my own hair for years, it's long and straight which probably helps :)
I also cut my husband's for him, his is long and curly. I used to cut some of my ex's hair with those clippers with no problems either.

Ive been cutting DH's hair with clippers for years, and did DS's when he was young (11 now so its not 'cool' to have your mum cut your hair ;)) I also take a pair of scissors to DD's fringe every so often as it seems to grow 10 times faster than the rest of her hair  and I have been known to do my own fringe at times as I like it around my chin and as I have a side parting its quite easy to hide if its slightly uneven :D
I also do my own colour and cant be doing a bad job as last time I went to the hairdressers the young girl asked me who did the fab dip dye job on my hair . . . my colour had grown out so far my roots were in line with my eyes :rotfl: aparently thats all the rage at the minute :rotfl:

I cut my own hair (Micky Clarke technique) and MUST make it poker straight first. I basically pull it into a pony tail and cut! I get lots of compliments and it saves £54 a time!

I cut my own hair, though I have a fairly simple style. I think it's called the ponytail technique on Youtube - you basically put your head upside down, pull it all forward and tie in a ponytail at the front of your head (aiming for a unicorn look lol!) then you measure where you want the shortest layer to go, cut across there and then chop into the ends until it goes 'fluffy'. I often get compliments when I've just done it and you don't get that blunt line look from just doing it straight across.

I cut my own hair with a fringe and layers and I am always ciomplimented on it, my friend cuts her own too and quite frankly we both have the nicest hair out of anyone we know.
The key is less is more, remember you can take more off but can't put it back.
I have very thick hair and i put it in a pony tail on the top of my head and chop into it not straight across, that way you get choppy layers rather than a straight line that if not straight can look very stange indeed.
I started doing mine after paying £35 for half an inch of hair to be taken off.
One bit of advice though go to hairdressers first off, get the style you want then just keep it trimmed much easier when you first start doing it,
I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.

I cut my own hair. it is quite short with a long fringe (think Pink). I use clippers around the back and sides then blend in the top back with thinning scissors (these are the notched pones which cut only small sections of hair and create layers). then i use the thinning scissors on the long fringe bit to make it sit flat. Sometimes I will also trim the length if it is getting in my eyes.

You need two mirrors but it is easy...just be brave.

I also cut my daughter hiar - just a trim. My sons hair (similar to mine) and my husband clippers his own.

I also colour my own hair platinum blonde. everyone says they love my hair.

I would have to pay over £100 for the cut and colour and that is money i would rather spend elsewhere.

yep i do dh's hair. 4 on top and 1 at back and sides and i use a 2 to blend it in. mucho cheaper than a barber. i did cut the kids but i wasnt as happy with theirs so i do take them to the barbers. they are 4 and 6 and its £5 each so not too bad. little ones hair doesnt grow too fast but eldest has thicker wire like hair! my own well, i usually tie it up as its desperatly needing cut but i really grudge the money. i did go to a training day in a salon but have since stopped. was always a good cut as any wonky bit were fixed by a proper hair dresser but the student had a close eye kept on them so never any probs. was under £10 too
