CobraTrack 5 - does it really work?

Hi all,
Does anyone have experience with a stolen car with a CobraTrack 5 immobilizer fitted and successfully got their car back?
The site states that this option has remote engine immoblization which basically allows police to send an alert to cobra for cobra to then send a code to your car to immoblilize it when it comes to a stop
But how do the police know your car is stolen in the first place? does the unit send a stolen car alert to the police? how fast does it do it? is it instant from the moment the device assumes the car is stolen?
is it even worth the money? is it expensive? i have found a gps tracker on amazon with good reviews that has no subscription charge which just gets fitted to parts of your car such as accelerator or gearbox and you can receive an sms if the car is stolen and then you can sms the device back to immobilise the car. all that is free and it seems you could use it in theory in a foreign country, all it needs is a SIM card in that has credit - simple as that. you then just program it to recognise your number or a few others and it seems it does not matter which country you are in.
im wondering if the cobratrack 5 works beyond the UK. i`ll be moving to norway sometime in the future and plan to keep my car that this would be fitted in however i dont know if this device will or even can send an alert to police in norway, is it just UK police?
anyone with experience on this, your help and advice is needed and would be greatly appreciated.
the car im thinking of getting this put into is an old honda civic however the mileage is genuinely very low and the car has at least 25 years or 250-300K miles life left in it and at the rate i drive probably it will outlive me, so i dont want it stolen and if it ever is stolen i really do want it back. will this cobra thing significantly increase my chances of getting my car back if it was stolen or is it not worth it all together?
the car does have an optional extra honda fitted alarm and has a factory fitted immobilizer according to the manual but im sure someone whos a pro car thief will manage to get around that if they really wanted to, would they not?

Thats a hell of a long and excited sentence! You almost sound like you're trying to drum up business for it!
Got a link? I'm curious. I've seen normal SMS trackers but never an SMS immobiliser.0 -

seems like it does the same thing as a cobratrack 5 except that it seems it aint linked to the police, so although you can track and immobilize your vehicle the police speed chase style integration is not going to cut it.
i want my car to be one of those that the police instantly get an alert of a stolen vehicle and the exact real time whereabouts and they are obliged to go and stop the thieves there and then, basically high speed chase TV show contender. if its nicked i`ll want it back within 24 hours due to the excellent tracker and the police work. i cannot afford for it to be simply reported and then in their own time if they ever find it by chance i`ll get it back.0 -
wouldn't have thought an old civic would be high on the professional car thief list so you are down to random burglars picking your keys up whilst helping themselves to your TV.
As for high speed chase :rotfl::rotfl:, even if you were lucky enough to get a police car in the right place as the right time your old civic is likely to end up mechanically wrecked or crashed if the "high speed chase TV shows" I've seen are anything to go by0 -
but surely if im gonna pay a lot of money to get that cobra thing fitted, the police will follow it if thats part of the package, right?
if i paid ADT a lot of money to safeguard a crappy flat not worth even 50K and is in poor condition and not even livable, the cops will still come because thats the "package", isnt that the same with this cobra thing?0 -
No. The police wont drop everything to find your 20 year old car.
If you can track the car then you have more chance of getting it back. But the damage done to it will mean its probably a writeoff.
Plus you need to consider it costs more than your cars worth. + nearly £600 for 3 years worth of tracking.
Want to track it on the web? £262 a year. On top of the £849 for the box etc.
And they are easily blocked.. Box from China for £20 or less.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Er no.
The cops will do whatever they want as and how they see fit. It doesn't matter what your 'package' is with the company that fitted your cobra device. They are independant to the police and have absolutely no control over them at all. I know that councils are able to hire the police (basically it's overtime rates and then £Mega slapped on top) but no private company or individual is ever going to have control over them in the sense that you're thinking of.
If they're able to attend they will but you're not going to buying police backup as part of your security package. They may operate with the security company but the security company aren't going to be able to force the police to go hunting for your car. You'd be better off jumping in a taxi and notifying the police that you're on your way to find it and for them to meet you there.0 -
Is it worth it for an aging Civic?0

:rotfl::rotfl: classic, I see by your avatar you are not from the planet earth !
Get real ! Plod dont drop everything for an old banger, nor do they drop everything for an ADT alarm, ADT alarms are monitored like the tracker - in the event of a car getting stolen or your flat getting burgled the monitoring company will notify the police that there is a theft / burglary in progress, IF there are units available then they will respond accordingly. If there is shall we say another event such as a serious rta then that will get priority over a nicked banger. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
well that answers it then, i`ll get the 54 quid box from amazon and track and immobilize my car myself and i`ll go after it myself.
and as far as tracking and alarms for houses goes... ive got some friends and family in america... burglaries have happened to them and their distant families before and never once have the police not responded instantly to their paid for yearly alarm systems, so im gonna guess crap support from police nationally is a part of british life.0 -

Question.....
If they bypassed the immobilizer to get the vehicle started in the first place, what use is it going to be?“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
