It's my Birthday on the 13th so it is MSE in our house that 2 events are covered by one meal/pressie!!0

I told OH that he better take me to see the new Die Hard which opens that night, or there might be a divirce on the cards. Things weren't looking good when his pal texted to tell him their nexy kayakking thingie was on the 14th, until I bagged some freebie tickets for a preview on the 13th. On valentines day itself we wont do anything fancy - cards and a meal at home, bf is an amazing cook anyway and always comes up with something lovely.
For his prezzie I have bought 2 tickets for a tour of his favourite brewery (he's really into his real ales) with a 10 quid gift card to spend in the brewery shop. Not a bad way to spend a saturday I suppose

Well, I'm being MSE by ignoring the usual Valentines Day commercial crap - and I'm being non-MSE by going out for dinner.
The day means nothing to my OH and myself, but I have a single friend who gets a little bit upset about it (another year with no man and no babies etc, you get the drift), so the two of us go out for a girly date instead. The rebel in me feels like I'm beating Hallmark by using the 14th as an occasion to celebrate friendship rather than romance.
As for OH, maybe I'll make him a cup of tea on the day. I'm sure I've got some free Twinnings somewhere.

I will buy a card worth a couple of quid for £7 pounds,
Then i will book a table that normally costs £20 but pay £60 because it is such a special day and we are so much more in love that day..
I will then order a dozen red roses that i can get for £12 on any normal day but because this day is so special i will pay £55 for dozen.
Whats not to like about valentines day?It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
I will be cooking a tapas feast at home with OH and some great Spanish wine :j:A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0

Last year I was really proud of myself.
Bought DH an Asda smart price valentines card (I think it was 7p?) and a packet of Loveheart sweeties for him. He was apparently going to buy me the same card but he thought he shouldnt incase I would be cross with him for doing that. I can't even remember what he gave me apart from a card, we don't normally make a huge effort with Valentines day these days, we used to before kids, etc. Flowers, chocs, expensive meals out are defo out the window.
If I can track another 'smart price' card down he will maybe get that again this year but to be honest I'm not fussed about getting pressies. A free hug will do me fine!

No idea what to get my OH this year. I know a lot of people don't buy into St. Valentine's Day, but I've always liked it. Yeah, you should show people you love everyday, but I see no harm in V-Day. That said, I avoid the cliche stuff. Why pay 5x more for roses (it really annoys me how much more they cost)?
We are off on holiday the week after, so don't wanna spend a lot as can use it for that. Probably make a nice meal together, exchange cards and a gift. Thinking of framing a pic of us for his desk. He's been asking for one for ages and I've resisted - may do that. Cheap but meaningful.0 -
Plan to cook a nice meal - I suspect m&$ will do a valentine themed meal deal but its usually more expensive than the normal meal deal as it includes a rose or similar that I'm not interested in so don't know if will bother with that.0
