New boiler Quote

Just received a quote for supply and fit of a new boiler. Seems a little pricey to me, but ive been quoted this amount twice. What do you guys think?

Remove the existing boiler and tanks and convert to a sealed system
Lay dustsheets and other appropriate protection
Lift carpets if required, floorboards etc.
Up-grade the gas carcass and relocate the new boiler to the airing cupboard
Supply and install Vaillant ecoTec pro 28 with vertical flue as required to the existing pipework
Supply and install Sentinel System Filter
Supply and fit programmable room thermostat
Supply and fit Trv’s to the existing radiators
Carry out soundness test and purge gas from meter, ensuring full ventilation.
Flush with cleaner refill and the inhibitor added.
Cost of labour & materials £2500.00 + vat
Any disturbed work will be made good.
The site will be left cleared on completion.
This boiler is covered by a five year parts and labour warranty
In order to comply with the warranty: The boiler requires annual maintenance checks carried out by ourselves - not included in above quote.

Note: The current boiler is located in the garage. This cost includes the work to relocate it into the cupbaord where the tank currently is

Assuming a combi is suitable for your property, I'd recommend the Plus over the Pro (better boiler and will get 7 year warranty with Vaillant Advance installer) and get the brand of TRVs and programmable roomstat specified.
  • Sadly all plumbing/heating work is pricey these days :( Even with a simple boiler replacement (ie. no resiting, no new controls) I would expect the price to a minimum of £2000.

For what you are getting it doesn't sound ridiculous. I suspect the resiting of the boiler and the new controls will be adding a bit of cost. But both will save you money in the long-run.

All you can do is get a couple more quotes to satisfy yourself that the price is "fair". Given that you already have 2 quotes at this price it looks like this unfortunately is the going rate.

I agree with ilike cookies. It doesn't sound an unreasonable price for the actual amount of work being done. If it was a simple one-for-one replacement I'd expect to see it at least a thousand quid lower, but it ain't. :)

I'm also impressed by the detailed and comprehensive quote you have been given.
Some of the quotes that are posted on here (usually after issues have arisen with an install) seem to say little more than "install a new boiler, sort of, whatever."
Yours may not be the cheapest, but it would give me confidence in the installer. How many RGI's would specify 'lay dustsheets'?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

That quote is about right IMO, but you don't have to have the installer service your boiler to keep the warranty valid, any RGI can do it so long as they fill in the service dates. Its a given that if they obviously impress you throughout the install then stick with them but if they don't use someone else to service it.
P.s. If they didn't use sheets anyway you'd be well in your rights to kick em out!
  • Thanks for all the replies. Our max budget for the work is nearer the £2500 mark (including VAT). Would it be acceptable for me to go back to the company and tell them that? See if they are prepared to bring the price down a little?

There is nothing wrong with telling them your budget.

You could get the price down by not converting to a sealed system and not relocating the boiler.

I would also get a couple more quotes.

Was actually thinking about asking them to re-quote, but with a price for relocating it to the kitchen instead. This would mean the vertical flue would not be required and would be on the same wall as the main gas supply

You maybe able to save by not converting to a sealed system.
