    They didnt try in the machine. They just looked at the card and said they do not accept Amex. Also found Birmingham New Street did not accept but Martineau Place accepted Amex. Bought 2 gift cards from them on Friday and got Foursquare notification within couple of seconds.

    +1 for keeping Amex hidden, waiting for the machine and then whipping it out and sticking it in. You'll often find it miraculously works contrary to the lies you're told by the business owner or its staff
