Why Gilbert , you imply that the Scots wouldn't say a word of satisfaction had they won. Really!

Maybe if you did a "hard days graft" you wouldn't be in the situation you're in !

Why should i, as a taxpayer and millions like me, subsidise you?

You are sympotamatic of whats wrong with this country, you, and millions like you, want it all for nothing whilst others go out and earn it for you.

I have no sympathy for you whatsoever. YOU put yourself in the situation you're in, no one else did.

Am i callous? I think not, people have to realise they cannot rely on the state for absolutely everything whilst neglecting their own responsibilities of paying their own way in life.

Perhaps Peter Kay should do another tour the "Colin wants a bungalow" tour?

Despite all the mudslinging towards colin and colin slinging it back, or vice versa, a serious discussion on this would be quite nice.

Do council's even build one bedroom places now?

We had this discussion before too. There are very few one bedroom places available. The ones that are available may not be disabled friendly either.

DD was in a one bedroom council place. Social services came round to see what adaptations they could make for her, decided that it wasn't suitable for someone on crutches full time, and there's no way they could adapt it for wheelchair use. Result was, she was offered and accepted a 2 bedroom HA property that was already adapted for the disabled. As a result, she will now have to find 14% of the rent every week from benefit money. Now the government have put some money away for discretionary housing benefit payments for disabled people who have had to move into adapted properties, but even the HA housing officer didn't know much about this as yet, and it was only about 3 weeks ago she got her keys. So it's not well advertised.

I do agree with it in principal but why not charge the older people the "tax" too?. Afterall a lot of these OAP's have a 3+ bedroom house on their own..
Yes im affected and have been trying to downsize but its proving hard..

I agree and disagree with you McJordi.

It would be nice to encourage the oldies to downsize too. But without the force of having to pay more. But on that side of things, the old man who lived next door to me had a 3 bedroom place on his own for the last 10 years. When it was just him and his wife, we're talking about 30 years after his family left, so it would have been nice for a family to get that house and him be in a more suitable house though, but he grew up in that house... so is it fair to kick him out? It is very tough tbh. Maybe if the councils went round the oldies and asked them if they would like to perhaps move to a smaller property rather than impose a tax on them. I would rather have the old man living next door to me than the family of NEDS who moved in in his place, so totally selfish of me :)
