TalkMobile Data
Hi all,
Has anyone had issues with data charges on TalkMobile? I think we'll get the 6mth package with 500MB but worried that's not enough for Nexus4, Iphone5/4s/3G type handsets.
Currently have unlimited data on T-Mobile but need to move to Vodafone to get signal in new house. I stuck a free app on the wifes iphone4s and it recorded 200MB in 24hrs let alone a billing month, will keep monitoring this tho.
Thanks

What does this have to do with Talkmobile?
And 200Mb in one day is a hell of lot of even for iPhone. What is she doing with her phone? Do you not have wifi at home?0 -
Having read various fair usage, charges, t&c's on the talkmobile site, I wondered if users here had much experience with over data charges with talkmobile as I've become a little confused. It mentions 10p/MB on some pages, 26p/day or even if I use over 25MB in a day I'll get charged extra even with a 500MB allowance. I'm just concerned that we might end up with a huge bill if we're not careful.
She was using safari browser away from the house, yes we have wifi in the house which the phone is connected to save data.Roll on DFD, final payment 1st October 2017 :beer:0 -
What FUP can be for a limited tariff?
I agree though that 10p/MB and 26p/day are confusing.0 -
If your wife really is using 200mb/day then signing up for a 500mb/mth data deal is I'm afraid to say madness. The extra charges would be absolutely horrendous unless the 26p/day figure is correct* (can't see it myself). My advice would be to email Talkmobile and ask them for clarification. Do not ring as you won't have written proof should a dispute arise.
Edit: Having thought about this it may be an idea to order a free GiffGaff sim to see what the internet is like in your new house. GiffGaff use o2 but as Vodafone/o2 are now mast sharing it should default to Vodafone where you are (I'm on talkmobile and the internt where i live was awful until the mast sharing, now i get o2 speeds of 4-5mb). Just a thought. GiffGaff offer u/l data deals starting fro £12/mth.
* Further edit. Probably no good for you.Daily Mobile Internet
Where "Unlimited" mobile internet is NOT included as part of Pay monthly contract, SIMple and Pay As You Go tariffs, customers can use Daily mobile internet for a maximum daily charge of 26p
"Unlimited" mobile internet is subject to a fair usage policy of 25MB per day, and then subject to a charge of 10p per MB thereafter.
You will be notified by text message when you are approaching the fair use policy threshold and advised that charging will apply if this threshold is exceeded.0 -
Quite agree Millicent, capping data is the only thing we're concerned about after 7yrs with unlimited data, but with no signal it's useless and to get another unlimited data plan would be about twice what were paying now.
The wife typically only uses facebook, twitter and gaming apps which I doubt use much data, so it surprised me when safari used as much.
I'll email them and see what they say, I now think the 12mth one might be better, 300mins, 3000texts and 26p/day data would be roughly £16pcm.Roll on DFD, final payment 1st October 2017 :beer:0 -
But the 26p/day data charge is only for 25mb, anything over that is charged at 10p/mb so that 200mb day would have cost £17.50! Please at least have a go at GiffGaff. It costs nowt to try it. No idea if it will work but surely worth a try?0

Obviously, "Unlimited" mobile internet is not included as part of 500Mb contract. It's very confusing, but sounds like 10p applies to 'Unlimited' and 26p to all other tariffs.0 -

If facebook is set to update throughout the day then that can rack up quite a bit of data usage where photos etc are involved.
Unless you can identify and resolve the reasons behind your very high data usage then you should stay with an unlimited tariff. As already suggested, giffgaff could be a good option.0 -
Thanks for the help so far, all alternative suggestions gratefully received, unfortunately giffgaff runs on the O2 network and it doesn't get a signal either. When I tested free payg sims I was amazed that vodafone got 3/5 bars of signal compared to all the other networks that had no signal. However I haven't tried 3 yet.
I did look at ovivo too as it's vodafone, but by the time you pay for the extra bundles it's no cheaper than the alternatives.
I don't think talkmobile do an unlimited tariff except the £30pcm one now which is why I'm thinking 26p/day isn't too bad a deal now.Roll on DFD, final payment 1st October 2017 :beer:0 -

When did you do this? Like I said before, o2 are now mast sharing with Vodafone (very recent development) so if you don't get an o2 signal it should default to Vodafone. Here's the excerpt from my earlier post.Edit: Having thought about this it may be an idea to order a free GiffGaff sim to see what the internet is like in your new house.
