Bit of a run on from a recent article that was posted on here by jill36 and a very well researched one by the article writer
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4407137
Everything in the article is true, you cannot keep tabs unless you write down each entrant individually as they appear.
But something I always believed to be true, but had no proof until now, is that if you're tweets are protected the prize provider cannot see them, so in effect you are wasting your time by retweeting.
At least 12% of my competition entrants have protected tweets, and as I have diligently gone through each entrant because of the above article it is impossible to verify them as entrants.
If you have never won on Twitter and are wondering why, this could be the reason.

If your tweets are protected it means only you can see them, you can RT a comp but the promoter cannot see them so you are ineligible to win.
To check your settings open your twitter page click on the cog wheel in top right ( am not very technical sorry xx). Click settings 2/3 way down it says "protect my tweets", make sure this box is unchecked, if it it checked you cannot win xxI love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.

mines unchecked
guess its just plain old bad luck for why im not winning on twitter lol0 -
Only you and your followers can see them (default is "not protected" ie public), also means you have to approve any requests to follow you.0

Mine is unchecked.
Thanks for explaining becky004, I wondered what protected tweets were too.
Without knowing how each comp organiser records entries, it is basically pointless entering.0 -

Given Janes article was thinking it may be a good idea for us to have a post where we can verify that the companies are only choosing form the last 20 RT's, that way we can all enter at the end and take our chances, or we can enter whenever as it does not matter as they have appropriate software? To start it off the Smyths weekly toy comp is not from the last 20 as I've checked, neither is Next or StaplesI love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.

Same here!
I feel like I enter more twitter comps than everything else and yet my win ratio is far lower0 -
Never knew about this before but mine is unchecked.
I started using twitter in Oct and have not won anything despite entering loads. I even enter for things I don't really want now(could always give them away), just to try and have a win and make sure I'm doing it right.
I can't believe it when I see posts where someone has won 6 twitter comps in a week etc.0 -

Most of my wins this month were Twitter wins, unless it states one entry only you need to spam (if you have the time!). C&P and @company, time consuming but worth it, if it's something you want xxI love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.

Hi Becky, I have done a bit of research into this (after a previous article by Jane) and I think it’s pot luck? You and I have both won on twitter quite a bit and not been the last 20 to enter? And so have a lot of other people.
It is often difficult to find out exactly when a twitter comp is finishing as well as some seem to drag on.
And I often see people winning with just a single re-tweet of the company tweet? (not just the fake ones lol)
I would think it good advice to do a ‘normal’ re-tweet and a cut and paste re-tweet for good measure as close as possible to the end of the comp?
It is a bit annoying though because you feel you are constantly entering the same comp just to be in with a chance.0
