I had 2 of these on order from last Friday, i've just had the following email.

    Dear Valued Orange Customer

Your application for a PAYG handset has been declined.

As with all Mail Order purchases there are risks to all parties concerning delivery and payment of any requested goods.

The details of your order placed via Telesales or via the web are referred and checked prior to the order being authorised and despatched for the security of both Orange and our customers.

These checks include the personal information, credit card information and delivery information provided.

As a result we have felt that we are unable to ensure that the equipment will be delivered in a manner which is not only timely and convenient but also secure for both us and the customer. This also concerns the receipt of payment.

If you still wish to join Orange we would advise you to purchase your equipment via an Orange Retail store.

    Kind Regards

    The Orange Shop

What do you make of that? Is it cos i've ordered from there before?

exact same thing happended to me a few months back when they where selling the samsungs off cheap. I couldnt understand it as I spend a lot of money on the net and they wouldnt even tell me why. I even have a sim with them.
weeks later I received a call asking for me to use another credit card which I did. That was the last I heard from them.

    Not very customer aware Orange.

The only thing I can think of is I hadnt changed my address with them from my old OVP PAYG sim and when I did a credit search online I could see that on the day I ordered the phone they had checked my old account.
Basically when you buy a PAYG phone from Orange direct they do a credit check. So watch your credit score.

The number of these currently on sale on Ebay may be a reason why they are cancelling multiple purchases. Of course this is a bit unfortunate for people who are buying several of these for friends and family.
However in doing this I think they are customer aware to ensure the end user actually gets the product. ;)

I also received a the same message stating

" As a result we have felt that we are unable to ensure that the equipment will be delivered in a manner which is not only timely and convenient but also secure for both us and the customer. This also concerns the receipt of payment."

It doesn't really make sense. When I phoned them I asked if they had done a credit check and they said no - which makes sense as they don't if you buy it in the high street. I had to explain that my credit card is registered to a PO Box as I don't have a letter box (live in a flat above a shop) and the delivery was to a friends. They made a note on my account and said they would try again. It annoyed me as they couldn't tell me why they didn't want my custom. Never had this problem before and never had an Orange phone before.

It says about making the purchase from an Orange shop. Can anyone confirm that these phones are the same price in a high street Orange shop as i thought this offer was online only, and my nearest Orange shop is about 50 miles away.
    Errrr...come back later ;)

firstly they do do a credit check as it was clearly shown on my search.
Secondly they cant be customer aware if they dont explain to a cusotmer why you cant have a phone even though you have glowing references and also have an account with them.
I only wanted one phone last time not a few to sell on.
I think they send these out as an excuse not to fulfil the order.

the problem lies with the ebay opportunists, so orange are not doing this to upset people but as a result some are going to loose out but genuine buyers will have a better chance of not missing out
thanks to everyone who has thanked me!
