Yes it does, but download and uninstall old version and try this one tomorrow.

Better to have a fresh mind.

I'm using MS Money v. 14.0.120.1105 ... which includes the very last patch issued by Microsoft .. and it works fine in Windows 8!

They closed down the server you mention years ago sadly , it's a great program and does the job nicely , I've hunted all over for a replacement and nothing does these simple tasks quite as well as MS Money does!

You can get the patches from here too ... http://money.mvps.org/faq/article/649.aspx

Should I have any difficulty opening an old file saved on external drive?

I think in the latest versions , your money file must be in your documents folder to work properly?

Could this be a permissions problem on the external drive, i.e. the file permissions only allow it to be writable from your account on Windows 7.

Right click the file, go to properties, security tab, and make sure that "users" has "full control" ticked.

I'm inclined to agree that this may be a version problem if you have simply installed Money from disc. When I did this in Windows 7 I had to update to a later version before it would work (my version is 14.0.100.1105) although I can't remember now where the update came from.

Tried this link but when I click on the link, the patch is no longer there.

One last thing, try unistaling money, reboot computer and re-install and see if patch tries to download following the above instructions from a fresh install.

But I did a search and it looks like microsoft has closed down the server patch.

    Google: "14.0.120.730"

    EDIT:

    Look here: Money 2005 UK - QFE2

I've tried various combinations without success. I read it to be a stand alone version of Money with no need for my installation disk.
Uninstalled MM and then tried above exe file but it was too quick to install so knew it hadn't worked.

Then tried reinstalling from my disk and running the above exe file as well but then can't even open the sample file without the error message.

No, unless someone can find the patch I think I need to look at another software.

Well after yet more messing about and many uninstalls and reinstalls from cd / links further up and running in compatibility mode XP (SP2) it seems to work and I now have years of data on this W8 machine.

Thank you very much for all your help guys. I now have version ending 1105 and ability to open previous files.Phew!
  • Glad you got there in the end, now make a backup of any files you used and notes on what you did for next time.
