Meatloaf. Faggots. Rabbit. And don't forget offal. If you don't visit your local butcher you might consider starting. They love giving advice on how to cook the cheapest cuts and not all of them involve minced beef.
There are thousand of recipes for eggs: maybe start focussing on some of those, too.
Anyway, I may not be the best person to advise as I haven't eaten any meat for over twenty years and haven't missed it one bit.0 -
Have you considered maybe a couple of meat free meals a week? That way you wont have to compromise on the meat you buy, you would just buy less of it?
Perhaps instead of chicken curry try a vegetable one. I find chick pea curry very tasty and very cheap to makeDont wait for your boat to come in 'Swim out and meet the bloody thing'0 -
A little crispy bacon added to a dish like macaroni cheese goes a long way in terms of flavour and giving a bit of bite. I only need to use a couple of rashers.0

Quite agree, meat is costly.
A few veggie meals will not hurt the bank so much.
One night this week we had = scrambled egg, mushrooms, baked beans and toast. It made a change from potato and veg.
We also like pasta bake or macaroni cheese.
Fish, jacket potato and fresh veg.The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
Thanks I'm looking at the veggi recipes now and there is a lovely butternut squash curry I might try also just flicking through the a$da mag and there is a quiche recipy too, we love eggs and normally do scrambled egg - poached egg - dippy egg - egg & cress rolls or omelettes for lunch or Saturday breakfast. This was done last year when we realised we couldn't afford meat more than once a day :-( we have cut our portions too byseving a side dish, roasted veg , garlic bread with our dinner to stretch it a bit more. Would love to eat more fish but its so expensive I find, we have a fishmonger but he is really over the top prices so only the supermarkets where I can get it.Living the simple life0

A soup and pudding night is always popular here and cheap too. We have Leek and Potato or Pea and ham are very filling and for the Pea and ham you only need a tiny bit of Ham. I serve this with HM bread and then do a nice filling pudding for after like Spotted !!!!!!, Jam Roly Poly or HM Bakewell Tart.Aug Comp Wins - :j

I'm a meat-eater, but don't regard it as compulsory. I hate the term "vegetarian": there are loads of perfectly good dishes that just don't happen to contain any meat.
On the other hand, do a search for "rubber chicken" on here. I reckon that I could get 10 meals out of one. You do need a freezer and like chicken soup, though. If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

I bought a pork hock from the butchers today, it has loads of meat on it and cost £2.99. I can get at least three meals for 3 adults out of it once I have slow cooked it.0

At the time of writing, their SmartPrice packs of 15 eggs are £1.34. Bigger packs are usually better value, but not always. If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?
