JackieO - I wonder how we managed back then with no washing machines? I had a big enamel bowl that I used for boiling the nappies up, and I still have the big wooden tongs I used for taking them out of the water. I remember buying Zorbit nappies and still have a couple in my rag box. I also remember Napisan in a bucket in the loo, and having to scrape off the nappies, until those miraculous nappy-liners came along. And, yes, they were luxuries, weren't they? I remember being told by the midwife that the best way to dry nappies was out in the fresh air, even if it was frosty.
As for the milk, I worry about the youngsters these days because apparently there are more allergies and things like eczema about now, and I think it's because children are denied fresh cow's milk for too long.
you could be right there, fewer allergies around back then.My dryer if the weather was bad was a 'Flatley' which had wooden bars that you draped thing over and put the lid down on.(kept the tiny kitchen warm on cold days as well0
I lived in a two roomed flat in london and we had to share the loo with two other families and had no working bath at all I would walk the kids in the pram to my sis-in-laws 5 miles away every Wednesday morning so we could all have a 'proper bath' then walk back home again afterwards.Couldn't get my pram on a bus:):) my I was only a skinny size 10 in those days as I walked everywhere
:):)It suprising though how many things you can do without if you think about it.We had o freezer and only a tiny half sized fridge with a tiny slot of a freezer bit at the top which took very little in the way of frozen stuff. My best friend in those days was my mouli-grater as it turned almost what ever we ate into mush for the baby to eat so no tins or jars of stuff bought.

Hi - oh wow someone merged all my threads! I do sound like I moan a lot now - oops!
DS uses aldi nappies ( by far the best ones) & just picked up a box in the baby event yesterday. We only have one car which is a must for work, I find I don't have much time for surveys & don't get a pay out very often? I did them years ago but nothing since the kids have been here. Same with Avon did it a few years ago but only made a tiny amount and that was selling to people at work (old job) I might have a word with the HI about the milk, DS was a premie so a bit over cautious with him.
The bills are always paid it's just getting the rest of the money to last the month at the minute. I need to make it to end of Aug as that will be my next payday & we are in July now, don't think there is much I can do about making anymore money now other than selling some bits for now. I'm hoping DH gets his bonus this month, but got a feeling it's going to be August pay day.
Thanks for all the replies to this everyone, I really appreciate the people who take the time to offer advice on here xLiving the simple life0 -
Hi Tink,
Those threads go back a fair way, and have got loads of useful advice on which I'm sure will have been useful to many lurkers who are in similar positions but haven't posted to ask for help.
I don't think you're moaning just trying to do the best you possibly can so give yourself a great big pat on the back. I'm sure you'll get through it you look to be doing well at the moment even if it does seem tough.2024 Fashion on the Ration - 3.5/66.5 coupons remaining1 cardigan - 5 coupons13 prs ankle socks - 13 coupons5 prs leggings - 10 coupons4 prs dungarees - 24 coupons1 cord jacket - 11 couponstotal 63 coupons0
