Thanks for the ideas! I've been getting nappys and wipes and been started on xmas since Jan! I don't want to buy stuff for the sake of it which is why I thought of buying stuff we need anyway but is still on offer/good price etc. Been looking at the store cupboard and winter prep thread for inspiration, think I might start on toiletries and cleaning stuff just putting one or two things in the trolley each week and see how that works out.

If you are planning on breast feeding then make sure you have healthy foods in for yourself.
Rice, dried beans, bread flour (if you make your own), long life fruit juice, dried fruits.
Good luck with bubba number two, how exciting!

I would look at buying a few things in bulk--so perhaps a bigger bag of rice, sugar, lentils. Usually prices are better for the 5 kilo size. What about paying a bit extra on your energy bill/key meter?

I would strongly suggest joining your local credit union if there is one and making sure that your fuel accounts are up to date, possibly over paying.

The credit union rewards regular payments and you can get a relatively cheap loan to cover emergencies (APR is highish but they offer decent value for short-term loans). That would cover car melt-downs, boiler blow up etc.

Can anyone help please, we are a family of 4 2 adults, DD4 & DS10M. Our shopping budget is usually tight £50 per week (not including baby milk & nappies) However due to 2 big bills I've been left with £35 for 2 weeks! I'm sure this is do - able as I have some things in still and a little but of a store cupboard left ( i'm 10 months into maternity leave so stores had built up for this have been dwindled down, and im on unpaid leave now.) The baby pretty much eats what we eat & dd is a easily pleased girl when it comes to food (thankfully) I was just wondering if anyone can help me with some cheap meals/shopping plans that will help stretch the budget. I have a great range of spices/herbs and I can shop at asda/aldi/lidl/tesco. Any help would be really appreciated with this.

    Thanks, Tink
