The XL stuff in Heron, like fish and pies are cheap Farm Foods eggs at 15 for £1. Much of the frozen veg in Earm Foods is 2 for £1.

Haha I've never seen a greggs like that in Newcastle! Must have a look. I get my bread, milk & frozen veg from farm foods as it's the cheapest I've found. Went out today and spent £6 on milk & some fruit & salad stuff for through the week. Still struggling with shopping lists, not sure if I should live day by day or plan the whole 2 weeks :/

Hi, I just thought I'd pop back & share how things are going!

I have 5 days left before pay day & £3.62 left of my £35. I have meals planned until Thursday & bread, milk, eggs & fruit in.

I found last week really scary & was constantly worried we would be left with nothing to eat & be living on beans on toast by now. I was really surprised at how creative i could be and how I had things in I had totally forgotten about. We ate well and still have meat available too, I also found I was reluctant to waste anything & often planned my meals around some lonely veg in the fridge.

My next challenge is to dig out what's left of the cupboards & use as much as I can with my meal plan to hopefully save some other stuff I have.

I thought I'd add our favorite family meals to this post.

•egg & chips (with left over tomatoes or mushrooms)
•Chilli with rice (bulked out so a 2nd portion can be used with the taccos I found in the cupboard this week)
•Roast chicken dinner, left overs turned into chicken curry (maggi sachet, tin of tomatoes & a pepper) scraps turned into chicken pasta for kids lunches
    •eggy bread for kids suppers
•cowboy sausage casserole (tin tomatoes, tin beans, mushrooms)
    •Tuna pasta bake

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who commented on this post as you really do help a lot of people

Hi, I've posted a few times about how I'm struggling to live on such a small amount at the moment, I'm just looking for some advice/ideas to see me through & maybe some tips from anyone in a similar situation.

Ok so I'm currently on maternity leave, I've had 9 months smp & i'm now 1 month into my 3 months unpaid leave. There is me, DH, DD4 & DS10M. DH works full time, DD4 is due to star school in September & DS10M is on formula milk & home made food.

We have very little to live on during this time & all of our savings have been used to pay for yearly bills which we planned for. I'm finding the shopping, petrol, nappies & milk are just huge costs for the little we have left. I've sold all items that DS10M has grown out of but im just struggling week to week. I've tried talking to DH but I find he is annoyed as I pushed to take the extra unpaid leave, we had planned, saved & budgeted for this but we have just been hit with so many unexpected bills/costs!!

I just need to get us through the next 2 months but feel like I'm sinking & getting no where :(

I'm sorry this is such a down post, thanks for reading g if you made it this far!

I asume that you have accrued a year's holiday leave? Can you not take that in month 11? That is what most of our staff do. They return to work after 11 months but actually go to work after the full year.

You do need to talk to your employer though.
