I get 1.5kg packs of bacon misfits from Lidl for £1.49 (probably available from other cheap supermarkets too, maybe your local butcher too but I've never seen it as cheap)

This does us for at least 3 meals, maybe one night we use about half of it for bubble 'n' squeak/ bacon and cabbage, then the rest in macaroni cheese/pasta bake, quiche, soups etc. A little goes a long way in those dishes, or added into otherwise "veggie" dishes so you can taste the meat.

Have you tried pork belly? Its cheap from a butcher (£3 per kilo from ours) and cooked right it is delicious.

back again just doing my meal plan and think suki was right earlier I'm stuck in a rut with our meal - loads of the recipes / cuts of meat people have put on here I've either not heard of or not tried so think I'm going to have a revamp. Me and dh were talking last night saying we can't stretch the shopping money and its not really an option for me to skip lunch or dinner and we were worried how we could do it but I think with a new meal plan and stepping away from the usual we maybe could do it! Thanks again xx

See, you have it stuck with the recipes you know and are comfy with

Beef shin is a lot cheaper and makes a nicer stew

Chicken thighs are better then breast for all curries stews etc

    Liver is devine

    As are hearts

And as the rest of it sausages, burgers etc ,only buy from the reduced aisle

Lamb hearts are quite cheap and i actually love them and i hated liver and such as a kid but the hearts actually taste like meat! Mossisons do them quite cheap.
Someone mentioned pork hock, morrisons do those too for only a couple of pounds.

We get nearly all our meat of whoopie-we have been trying the butcher lately too and bought a whole lamb as it was a very good deal.

Otherwise for our no meat and cheap days we would have egg/chips, kippers are very cheap and veg ect, or jacket potato with tuna, sweetcorn, beans.
Stir fry is a cheapish one for us, i get the ready to wok noodles from b&m 50p a pack a frozen bag of stirfry veg £1 iceland and you can throw any leftover meat, prawns ect in with it or it's fine without. That feeds 5 of us.
Egg and bacon pie (you only need the very cheap misshape bits)

Oh and i'd cut out the cleaning products, i use nothing more than diluted vinigar and the odd dash of bicarb to clean most of my house. The only exception is the limescale toilet cleaner as we have a huge problem!
I'd check your claiming all possible benefits to as thats a tight budget.

oh and another good idea is to browse my supermarket and see which sort meats are cheap and see if you can google a recipe for it.

I'll second the ohsheglows blog, especially her porridge/oatmeal recipes. I don't even like porridge but I'll happily eat a bowl of the banana peanut butter stuff and it'll keep me going til evening quite happily.

Dried beans might seem a bit of faff, but they work out much cheaper than even cheapie canned and they taste much better. We get through tons of them - cheaper than chips!
