Most suitable New laptop for me.

If you use a lot of phone airtime, there are still "free" laptop deals around.
I'm very happy with my Samsung.0 -

As for intelligent reason not too - in 7 days any problems might not surface - I then lose the right to return. As for the warranty - that means nothing to me unless I have the full terms and conditions - which were not mentioned. I do not want to replace one faulty machine for (potentially) someone else's faulty machine.
Completely agree with closed - sales would suit you if you're not already in it - perhaps you should lay off attempting to insult customers though
Oh, and just out of interest - are you getting commission on second hand Toshiba's?
Hmmmm....don't think that you are heading for a First. Perhaps a poor second.
If you actually bothered to do any research at all, you would realise that the 'seven working days' is the normal SOGA conditions.
If you had bothered to read on, you would realise that you also had 28 days for a full refund if any fault developed.
After that it's the usual exchange/repair/refund.
But I already told you that you would have the same warranty conditions as new and there was no reason for you to worry.
Yes, I do agree with the saying about a fool.
Do let us know what you buy in the end.
I'll go to waste my time elsewhere.0 -

Not having a dig because you post sound advice but it's an area that's easily confusing. The 'seven working days' is the Distance Selling Regulations not the Sale of Goods act and you have 7 working days from the day after delivery merely to notify the seller of your intention to cancel contract and return goods under DSR.
The remaining advice for faulty goods is SOGA.604!0 -
Haha - I don't know why you are trying to make it personal, but I'll bite regardless - I'm a PhD student - not an undergraduate. If you're bored and you want an academic debate then just say! I'm sure plenty of people will indulge you.
As for your dig about me not "bothering to research" - research is exactly why I wanted more time. Are you honestly telling me that particular laptop is the only refurbished one that will be sold at that price - ever - and I'll never find another similar offer?!
Now, I can't comment on sale if goods acts etc, I've never looked into it in any detail therefore will not comment - but the above post has highlighted exactly why I should not take your word for things - and quickly follow your advice and buy the first thing suggested. You may be right about the warranty etc BUT you might not be - so where would that have left me - yep - with the word of an internet forum poster, a stranger who has no concern for my best interests, and a faulty laptop and a lighter bank balance.
Basically, thanks for your suggestion - I looked at it, thought about it, I chose not to go with it - not really cause to be criticised, but perhaps that's how you get your kicks - and who am I to judge!
Anyway, I've said everything I wanted to say - I shall leave you to flog some Toshiba's.0 -

Thanks for the suggestionprobably not for me as I've got a really basic phone contract just now and it does me fine. Still worth investigating though.

Yes, you are right, I meant the DSR. Got a little distracted here. I'm actually on the beach in Thailand.

You asked for advice on a Tech forum, not down the pub.
I linked you to a laptop for under £200 that has a better than average webcam (1MP as opposed to the VGA quality usual on laptops under £300), HDMI output, USB 3.0, long battery life, 5 in 1 media card reader, separate numeric keypad... all in an easy to maintain package.
I defy you to find a similarly specced machine at that price point. Today, tomorrow or next week.
The only hope that you have is if they have another batch of those machines for sale....or just to pay more for the same thing.Seems like many agreed with me, as they all disappeared whilst you were cogitating.
I don't need to sell a thing. I've long since retired(at 26 years of age) and 6000 miles away from you, in a beach front property.
So I have lots of time to help the hopeless.
I deliberately did not try to blind you with science, but tried to push you gently in the right direction...and when that didn't work, gave you a kick.
You have some of the best minds on the Tech forum right now. Let them show you a better machine at that price point.
You stick to your subject and let me stick to mine eh?
Now, tell me about your thesis. Wot's it all abawt?0 -
I'm not denying it was probably a good machine, and I'm not saying I don't trust your tech knowledge - what I wasn't keen on was a) ebay - especially because of the negative ratings left by others b) refurbished (I asked for advice on a new laptop - I never said second hand c) didn't like your "salesman on commission" tone and d) didn't appreciate being personally attacked because I didn't do what you said, perhaps you react to everyone like that when they dare decide not to take your advice (orders). The majority of people say 'how about this' and leave it at that = great, that is what I was looking for! That's why I initially thanked you!
As for finding a similar machine at that price - your second link, does that not qualify?! If so, then you completed my challengeif not, why suggest a slightly more expensive machine that is not at least equally as good?
Not quite sure why you have emphasised the fact you're in Thailand, when it is completely irrelevant - maybe to try and show you are well travelled maybe, enjoying the ex-pat life?
Anyway, are we done, banter over?0 -

Mentioned that I was in Thailand to refute that I was selling anything...I'm not even in the UK.
The second machine is more expensive. I suggested the second machine, because you stupidly(IMO) missed the first. It's not quite as good value in my eyes, but about as good as you can expect at that particular price point.
So no, the challenge is still on.
You really have to stop this eBay paranoia. It's not becoming for a supposedly intelligent person. You are buying from ARGOS, not from eBay.
The machine would have been as new. A single scratch and you could return it without question.
Do you seriously think that paying more for a 'new' one, would get you a more reliable machine?
"Salesmen on commission"...what an idiotic comment when someone is trying to help you.
Have you noted the dearth of suggestions on your thread?
Anyway, come back at let us know what you bought in the end.0 -
Hi Closed - did the factory restore - you're right, it didn't fix the screen, but it's running slightly faster! Thanks for your help on how to do it.
