cheeky cow!!!! Tell her no and to refer someone herself and get her own money!!!
If you feel bad just saying no or eff off (which is what I would greet such a suggestion with) you could always make up a small untruth in an attempt to not upset her and say you have already allocated the money for a bill/renovations/other small porkie.. but I wouldn't botherLB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Tell her what generally happens is that the new employee matches the Company's referral payment to the referee by way of thanks.0

Do you want to remain close friends? Of course she has a cheek asking for a share of the money if it wasn't agreed beforehand, but if want to remain close friends what choice do you have?
I certainly wouldn't want to be close friends with anyone who expected me to split my bonus, and to be honest I don't think a close friend would suggest it. She ought to be grateful she got a better job through your intervention on her behalf
I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
I personally think she should be offering to take YOU out for a nice lunch as a thank-you for helping her find a new and better job.Val.0

Goodness, what a nerve. Just tell her sorry but you've earmarked it and can't spare it.0

TBH, Lizzie, I'd be inclined to tell her nothing of the sort.
I think the OP should tell her the truth - that the money (and how it's spent) has got nothing to do with her.0 -
Hmmm
I suppose i'm going against the grain when i say if it was me who got a referal bonus i'd split it no questiosn asked, i assumed that was the done thing to do
In the past when friends have offered to refer me/i refered them its always been on the onus the bonus is split. I guess i think of it in terms of i might not have got the job unless they reffered me so they deserve half. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. In this case, the person who did the referring gets the bonus.
It's the person with the nice new job who is asking to share in the bonus.0 -

That sounds like it's been an understanding between you and your friends - but would you have the brass neck to actually ask for half?0 -
What a cheek!
You: "sorry mate, wish you said earlier money already gone on bills, you know how everything keeps going up!, but hey! next time i help you out with a job, will remember to split the difference!
Her: "oh! wish i'd asked earlier"
Your a good friend in helping out, the company saves recruitment money, you get money for helping your company/friend & she earns more - win win in my eyes
. No one said it was gonna be easy!0
