Item arrived with bad odour

I bought a jacket on ebay for £13 at the weekend and it arrived yesterday with a very strong odour which to me seems like cigarettes & dogs. As the jacket is fake fur I can't just throw it in the wash or douse it in febreze.
Should I just accept it or should I contact the seller? I don't want to appear rude as the seller was great and contacted me when she'd sent it etc.

I'd contact the seller and ask...:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

Contact the seller but if they say return then the return cost is down to you (unless the seller is willing to pay return costs) and you will have to return tracked regardless of how it was sent for your protection.
If you have no proof of return - tracking number - PayPal / eBay would not find in your favour if you raised a claim but could not prove the item was returned!Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
What was it packed in?
Some mailing bags absolutely stink! :mad:Lose is to not win......Loose is not tight......get it right!0 -
Some of the grey mail bags do make clothes have an acrid smoke smell.
If I'm sending clothes in one of those mailers, I tend to put them in another bag first, just incase.0 -
I just recieved some new items of clothing in one of these mail bags and it too has a strange smell. the bag is one of the bio degradable ones, so maybe thats why it smells funny.

Wait until it is dry out and pop it outside for as long as possible, hopefully a good airing will sort it out.0

I can understand this is frustrating but, once again, this is the risk one takes when buying a) from private sellers not shops and b) online. I bought a jacket on eBay recently and it smelt a little but I just let it air.
Unless the listing said the item comes from a smoke/pet free home there is no point in contacting the seller, imho. If they offer a return you'll have to return it at your own expense, and then you're both out of pocket. The seller may not even realise there was a smell (some people are used to the smell of smoke/animals in their home etc so genuinely can't tell).
If you're happy with the item then just febreeze it and air it. As I said, I understand it's frustrating but this is what I mean when I say that buyers have unrealistic expectations of private sellers on eBay! Buying is always a risk when you can't see the item first and the seller isn't a business.0 -
Stuff delivered to me b myhermes always smells of cigarette smoke, I have always put it down to the courier smoking around the parcels.0
