Hi all, thanks for your support. DD has spoken to Social Services, they are coming to see her next week to fill in the forms. They can't move Dad as he has been there for longer than two years, thank goodness. It is a lovely home and he loves being there.:) We haven't got the money, so they will have to sort it outt, after all as DD said to them, "If he had no other family, or we were in Australia, who would pay then?" They didn't have an answer!

Anyway, just made a big batch of Twinks' Hobnobs for tomorrow!:T

  • Good afternoon everyone :)

I would have sworn I posted there this morning but either it's vanished or I am going mad.

It's blowing a hooley here. I may get swept along the motorway and not need to use any fuel.

Crazy day at work and I am exhausted. No idea what is for dinner but it will be out of the store cupboard and quick and easy.

DH's marking continues, as does the decluttering of the middle bed (junk) room. One day I will have a book nook.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep warm and safe and have a super evening :)

    Hi everyone.

We went to the local Dobbie's garden centre to buy some seeds. We are going to have a go at growing peas and beans. We usually do tomatoes, but will have a break from them this year as we will be away in September, which is the main harvest time for toms.

Took advantage of the brighter weather to do some eBay photography as the light was good.

Then, this afternoon we did some financial stuff. We've moved some money from one bank to another so we can open an ISA each and a new fixed rate saver.

I've always worked in finance, and I've been quite lazy about doing this, probably because it's always a bit painful moving chunks of money around.

Anyway, my transfer went though just fine, but my husband ended up having to phone them twice to up date info and stuff. He's not really a finance type of person, and, bless him, doesn't really know what he wants to say when he talks to banks, I was really having to restrain myself from snatching the phone out of his hand and talk on his behalf!!

Anyway all the money has ended up where it should be, so it's turned out all right.

We are waiting until the weekend to open the new accounts, as we've had enough for one day!

What with all the messing around with banks, I haven't even thought much about dinner, I think we'll have just simple grilled salmon

    Hi all.
Bright and sunny here although we had a cloudburst this morning that seemed to come from nowhere. Also a bit breezy (understatement) which means that however much I try to wedge the wheelie bin in place it still manages to go on a voyage of discovery round the garden.

Hilstep: Gnashing my teeth for you. It's about time they got this 'Paying for care' situation sorted out. My DD paid every penny for his care. It was his reward for living the thriftiest life you can imagine. Only small used cars, no foreign holidays, no entertainment, at least, not entertainment that had to be paid for, living on what he produced in the garden, making do and mending were part of his psyche. Which meant that he, a very ordinary working man, managed to see two of us through Grammar School and then kept us through College and Uni until we were 21. It also meant that he had enough savings to pay for residential and nursing homes, and his spartan, healthy life meant that he lived to 97. He was in homes with people who had lived very comfortably and spent every penny that came their way, so that all we taxpayers (including DD) were paying for them. I've no quarrel with that but the unfairness of it still gets to me.
OK. Rant over, you can pop your heads above the parapet now.

Waiting for the Rev to come back from her conference. End of peace.
End of eating what and when I like. Welcome, normal life.

    Hilly,

This is not a very nice thing to say,

But tell them you are not paying for his care, He is you Dad not your dependent,

Tell them that If they don't wont to pay them that;s up to them if they wont him to die so be it.
They will not go down this road, trust me.
But be firm! Tell them no money will be coming from you are any one else.

I don't think under the law they can make take you to court to make you pay.
They will ask you to pay. They will try to make you feel its your duty to pay. But Under law I don't think it is.

    Stay strong, Stay firm.

    Good luck:A

    Hi all,

Thanks for your kind words, feeling a bit better as I've taken the bull by the horns and spoke to Stepchange who were wonderful. Went through all our incomings and outgoings and suggested a DMP which after much discussion with dh we have decided that this is the best course of action. It's difficult to budget with dh being self employed but we have managed to come to a realistic budget and work out what's left for unsecured debt.
I know it's going to be a tough few months whilst we get things agreed and work towards a new budget without credit cards getting us to the end of the month, but I'm trying to see it as a positive step. At least I can now see a light at the end of the tunnel. This doesn't include anything I might earn so if I can get working as well we will be debt free so much more quickly.
I'm going to need you old stylers support more than ever. I feel strangely elated. None of the debt has gone but at least I can now see a way forward.
I am also going to start posting on the DMP support thread and do lots of reading up.
    Thanks again for your support

  • Hi all
No visiting pigeon today thankfully, just a normal busy day at work.
Was told today that from now on when we do a duty supervising the students in the canteen we have to pick up the rubbish & clear their plates & cutlery away, I can't see me doing the duties for much longer, if I'd have wanted a job as a cleaner I'd have applied for one.
    Have a good evening everyone.
    Hugs Hester
