BTW, i think it should be illegal to bunch everyone together like they do.

We had a very long discussion about this on a previous thread.

Basically insurance companies do need SOME way to asses people in order to run their business and as mattymoo has indicated it takes account of many factors.

In one part of the discussion, I offered people completely FAIR quotes.
This would be include private assesments by a driving instructor, medical practitioner and a clinical pyscologist.
It would cost about £400 for jsut a quote.

I think that you would agree that the system that we have now, whilst not 100% fair is really the only practical way of businesses proceeding because people simply don't want to spend £400 having an individual assesment by various qualified professionals.

Anyway at the end of the day YOU don't get to set the rules. The businesses get to decide who they want to charge what and as long as they aren't breaking the law there is little you can do if you want their services.

The Insurance companies doing assesments? What are the DVLA supposed to be doing?

The Police need to clamp down harder on people who dont drive correctly that would help....... once you become lax with one thing then it gets out of control ...... the amount of people who dont use an indicator these days?

Anywho Adrianflux are pretty good for younger drives i think ........ although when you need them there not so quick to help as take your money.

I would agree that not enough is being done. But the insurance companies have to operate in the real world where police resources are very thin on the ground and every day you see people on mobile phones etc.

Accidents are not always about poor driving (thefts and fire have nothing to do with driving).

Some people are more susceptible just beacuse of their postcode.
Insurance companies take all this into account.
Also more expensive cars cost more to repair which is also taken account of.

It's not all about bad driving (although clearly a major factor).

One day I think we'll have big brother and anyone that speeds will automatically get penalised, but at the moment enforcement is woefully lacking.

Having said that I wouldn't want the police spending all their time on traffic offences. It's quite frustrating when something more majort happens and you get no help from the police but they're happen to spend their time chasing people doing 71 mph. I'm not saying it's OK to speed just that it might not always be the end of the world in comparison with say rape.

"damage he will more than likely do."

You're just as bad as the insurance companies coming out with comments like that. Being 17 doesn't make you a dangerous driver. It's unfair discrimination.

How, exactly? Being 17 makes you an inexperienced driver, which is very important (and yes I do know experienced ones can drive like idiots)

That is the entire reason young people are more expensive to ensure- they are statistically more likely to have accident and cause damage to what are usually far more expensive cars.

Like it or not, that is the truth.

What an unnecessarily aggressive reply! The question I asked was an innocent request to anyone who had any honest ideas to our problem. My son is just as likely (or unlikely, as anyone of any age to cause damage whilst driving). Don't tar everyone with the same brush.

Not really, you were asking if it was ok to commit fraud and working in the insurance industry catching people that do fronting I was giving an honest answer.

Your son IS more likely to have an accident than any other age group or sex.

I hope to get my lad on my car insurance - he will be 17 at Xmas. I was wondering about Direct Line as they allow named drivers to build their own no claims. I don't want to buy a 2nd car and am happy for him to use mine until he is in a position to get his own. Has anyone used Direct Line like this for young drivers?

My son managed to get a great insurance deal with Norwich Union.
Along with the *Pass Plus Certificate* Norwich Union saved my son an extra £500.00. It should also be mentioned Norwich Union were the cheapest car insurance i found, for under the age of 21 years.

    Hope to be of help

My sister-in-law does this for her son.
My husband thinks the Direct Line policy is designed to be used that way (from adverts).
I think it might be "fronting".

Would be very interested in the opinion of anyone in the industry as I would like to advise them that this is fraudulent if that's the case.

I've just insured my 17 yr old son (newly passed) through Quinn direct - theirs was the best quote I could find. He has a peugeot 106 xr 1.4 and it was £1039 for 3rd P F&T. I also had quotes from them for the pug 106 1.1, standard corsa and clio, all group 3 insurance and they quoted £950.
I belatedly had a look on a peugeot 106 users forum and there was a thread on insurance for youger drivers, It mentioned National Farmers Union as being the cheapest, but you can't get an on-line quote.
