Not to turn it into another tedious fanboy war, and I've owned both, but Apple products 'just work' as long as it's something Apple 'just want you to be able to do with it'.

Ideally there'd be something as open as Android with the consistency and quality of the iOS platform. Google made a mistake allowing it to get so fragmented with all the different devices and leaving it to operators.

I never felt restricted with anything when owning an iPad, and think its a good thing that it isnt as accessible, one of the reasons using an apple product is much more secure. e.g. flash.... :) but your right, dont want another boring android vs apple vs windows, lol! Its each to their own :)

I have an Galaxy SIII and it seems with Jelly Bean this problem is gone, unlike my original Galaxy S it no longer has a separate app and storage partition, its all lumped into one.
  • I hope so. I'm on ICS, but my son's tablet is JB, so I hope that he doesn't have my problem.

Thanks for all of your opinions guys. They do help.

On your last point, Andy, I would tend to agree, but the current handsets running the latest version of Android have more internal memory and that helps.

On your first point, if you had a Windows phone, you wouldn't need the memory as you would not have the choice of Apps and if you had an Iphone, you wouldn't have any money left to buy any !!! :rotfl::rotfl:

I currently use a Lumia and have just under 100 apps installed (on top of the pre-installed) and 46 games. Used to have more games but fancied a cull. Never noticed an issue at all but I am also happy with the selection. Entry level Android phones are notorious for low memory issues... These are the sacrifices manufacturers make to get the price to a level that gets the product into your hands.

I agree. But it does give first-timers a chance to get used to the operating system without too much of an outlay and if the like, they can upgrade to a decent one or if they don't then not too much to lose.

You can also do that with Lumias - when CPW have a sale on ! - but you can't with Iphones.

Worst thing I found with Lumia/Windows 7 was no app to monitor data use, unlike Androids. Daughter's first bill was £40 over the top.

Nokia now have an app for WP7 handsets called counters. You just put your network limit and billing date in and it does the rest for you and tells you when the limit is hit. That's been out around 6 months now. I agree with your point on Android though.
